The blades can detach during use, posing a hazard to consumers

    Ceiling fan Source: CPSC

The manufacturer of Harbor Breeze and Honeywell ceiling fans has recalled about 77,900 fans because the fan blades can detach during use, posing a risk to people and property.

Hong Kong China Electric Appliance Manufacture Company, which makes fans sold under both the Harbor Breeze and Honeywell brand names, has received 60 reports of the blades detaching during use, three of which resulted in damage to drywall. There are no reports of injuries, according to the release from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The ceiling fan recall applies to Harbor Breeze Belleisle Bay 52-inch fans as well as Honeywell Rio 52-inch fans. The two fan lines are identical but sold under different brand names in a variety of finishes. The full list is available in the CPSC announcement. Consumer Reports does not currently test ceiling fans and has not had this model in our labs.
