When it comes to home safety, you may be on top of things such as making sure smoke detectors are up to date—but less savvy about something that’s just as important: minimizing your risk of falls.

More than 75 percent of falls among older adults occur in or near the home, according to the National Council on Aging. Consumer Reports’ home testing team has some quick and simple suggestions to make your home a fall-hazard-free zone.
