YONKERS, NY – Consumer Reports (CR) has launched the “Bread & Butter” newsletter on Substack as part of a broader effort to engage new audiences.

Bread & Butter is a free, weekly newsletter that focuses on helping people save money, spend less, and navigate today’s world with confidence. Written by Yasmeen Khan, a multimedia journalist who has built her career covering the mechanics of modern living, Bread & Butter brings back a piece of CR’s 90-year history for a new generation.

Bread & Butter was a weekly newsletter first published by Consumer Reports in 1941 to help cash-strapped Americans make smart decisions with limited resources. Bread & Butter on Substack reimagines the vintage newsletter with a refreshed look and feel.

“Many of the issues people face today are similar to the ones they faced when CR was founded – high prices, questionable claims, and lack of trust. Bread & Butter leans into these top-of-mind concerns,” said Jen Shecter, Vice President of Content at Consumer Reports. “Our debut on Substack brings CR’s independent, data-backed research and advice to a new audience where they are.”

Bread & Butter will be sent every Wednesday, starting November 26. It’s the latest addition to CR’s newsletter portfolio, which also includes limited edition series, as well as twice-weekly and weekly content on a range of topics from health to safety to pocketbook issues.

Consumer Reports also recently launched “Talking Carts,” a weekly podcast also focused on money-saving tips and real-world hacks for smarter shopping, no matter how and where you shop –  big-box retailers to dollar stores and supermarkets. You can find Talking Carts on Apple and Spotify.
