How to Use the Gift Article Feature on ConsumerReports.org

    About Gift Articles

As a Consumer Reports (CR) subscriber, you can now share the value of trusted, unbiased product insights with friends and family — even if they aren’t members yet.
The Gift Article feature allows you to share select CR articles with non-members, helping others make confident choices while amplifying CR’s mission to create a fair and safe marketplace for all consumers.

    How It Works

    Gift Allowance

    • Digital paid members can gift up to 5 articles per month.
    • On the 1st of every month, your available gift articles automatically reset to 5.
    • Recipients can read gifted articles with or without a CR membership.
    • Each gifted article link remains accessible for 31 days from the date of sharing.
    • Gifted articles can be shared with multiple recipients without using additional gift credits.

Tip: If you’d like to share more than a few articles regularly, consider inviting your friends to become CR members so they can enjoy full, unlimited access.

    Sharing Gift Articles

    To Share a Gift Article

    1. On any eligible article page, select the “Gift this article” button (🎁).
-On mobile, this may appear as a gift icon.
    2. Choose your preferred sharing option — such as email, text message (Copy link), or Facebook link.
    3. Send your gift link to your recipient(s).

    What Happens Next

    • After you select the Gift this article button, a panel will appear showing how many gift articles you have remaining.
    • Each time you gift an article, your available balance decreases by one.
    • You can share each gifted article link with multiple people — it still counts as only one gift.
    • Gift links can only be shared using the Gift button and built-in share options; copying the article URL directly will not provide free access.

    Managing Your Gift Articles

    Viewing Your Gift History

You can check how many articles you’ve gifted and how many remain for the month through your CR account.

    On Desktop:
    1. Go to consumerreports.org and sign in.
    2. Select your profile icon (top right) → Account SettingsGift Articles.
    3. You’ll see your active gift links and remaining balance.

    When You Reach Your Limit

When you’ve shared all available gift articles for the month, a message will appear letting you know you’ve reached your limit (e.g., “You’ve shared 5/5 gift articles this month”).
You’ll be able to view previously shared links, but new gifting options will be unavailable until the next monthly reset.

    For Gift Recipients

If you receive a gift article from a CR subscriber:

    • You can read the article for free by providing your email address.
    • Gift access lasts 31 days from the date it was shared.
    • To continue exploring our trusted ratings, reviews, and guides, consider joining Consumer Reports for full access.

    Why It Matters

The Gift Article feature allows CR members to share trustworthy, unbiased consumer insights — extending CR’s mission beyond its member base and helping more people make informed decisions.
