Pillows
The Beckham Luxury Linens Hotel Collection Pillow has a 100-percent cotton cover and a 100-percent polyester gel-fiber filling. The pillow aced our test for breathability, so it should help keep you from feeling hot; it also scored top marks for resiliency, so it should maintain its shape over time.
Purple mattresses have made their mark on the sleep industry with their "GelFlex Grid" technology. You can get that same pressure-relieving and contouring comfort with Purple’s DreamLayer pillow. This adjustable fill pick is designed with a urethane foam pad, with gel, and it has two removable layers. While side sleepers may like this pillow more than back sleepers, smaller sleepers will want to try it without the extra layers first, our expert says. Larger sleepers should try adding one of the additional layers. This highly breathable pillow offers cooling properties and a washable cover. It doesn’t retain warmth, either.
The Sleep Number ComfortFit Ultimate is made of a blend of memory foam pieces and down alternative fibers. Inside the pillow casing are three layers that can be added or removed to tailor the pillow’s comfort to your individual needs. It earns top support ratings for both side and back sleepers, and our testers find it to be very breathable. It’s not as resilient as other options on this list, though, and might not hold its shape over time. This deal is a buy one, get one 50 percent off discount for two pillows.
Layla’s sale is the same promotion they’ve been running for months—a buy one, get one 50 percent off deal. The adjustable-fill pillow from Layla combines polyurethane foam with kapok—the feather-like fiber derived from the seed pods of the kapok tree, renowned for serving as a vegan alternative to down. Our tests find that the model lives up to the material’s reputation, offering top-notch breathability in a soft and rather resilient package. Despite not having cooling properties as its name suggests, the pillow does not retain warmth. And while it offers stellar support for side sleepers, back sleepers are also well served by this pick.
Sheets
Cool, breathable, and incredibly soft, the Buffy Breeze Sheet Set is a standout among synthetic fiber options. It earns top marks for fit and softness and holds up well in tests for shrinkage, strength, and wrinkling. Designed for mattresses up to 14 inches deep, these eucalyptus-based sheets stay smooth, stay put, and even include directional tags to make bed-making a breeze (no pun intended).
You’re going to experience quite a bit of wrinkling with the Hotel Collection Egyptian cotton sheets, but if you don’t mind pulling out the steamer to get your sheets smooth, you have a winner with this set. It provides a great fit for mattresses up to 10 inches thick, and it can withstand quite a bit of stretching and pulling. Plus, it aced our shrinkage test—just one of five cotton sheets in our ratings to do so.
Duvets
Brooklinen Down Comforter
Brooklinen’s down comforter stands out for its high-quality construction, ultra-soft feel, and excellent temperature regulation. Available in both down and down-alternative options, it comes in lightweight, all-season, or ultra-warm varieties. The all-season down version is cozy and breathable, with no noticeable clumping or feather leakage. Its sateen shell adds a touch of luxury, and features a grid design and corner ties to keep it in place. Though pricey, it’s a worthwhile investment for those seeking top-tier comfort. There’s currently a 15 percent discount available, but if you wait a week, it’s likely to increase to 20 percent. Brooklinen also offers a 365-day return policy (minus a $9.95 fee). The duvet is Downmark certified.
Buffy Cloud Comforter
Buffy’s Cloud Comforter is the softest choice in our at-home assessment. Thanks to its smooth, silky feel and fluffiness, the duvet is comfortable enough to use without a duvet cover. Made of recycled materials, it’s uniformly stuffed in layers to prevent clumping and shedding. The shell material is 100 percent sateen-weave Tencel lyocell.
Heated Blankets
Sunbeam Royal Ultra Heated Throw
This Sunbeam heated blanket is made of a soft, lightweight polyester that’s like felted wool. The wires, which conduct heat throughout the fabric, are thicker and more visible than they are on the other two blankets we tried. But the heat in the Sunbeam is more evenly distributed, so it’s a trade-off well worth making.
Mattress Toppers
This 3-inch queen-size memory foam mattress topper offers excellent support and a deeper, more cushioned feel than many others. Infused with cooling gel, it helps regulate temperature for a more comfortable night’s sleep. The flippable design adds versatility, though it lacks a cover and corner straps, which may lead to shifting. Temperature-sensitive foam means the topper feels softer when warm and firmer in cooler conditions. Weighing 15 pounds, it provides average warmth retention and a balanced blend of comfort and support.
Lab tests find that this topper from Casper doesn’t allow users to sink in as deeply as others. This topper feels like an actual mattress, adding a touch of medium softness where needed without allowing the body to sink in too much. The two-layer cushion combines a layer of softer foam over a firmer base layer of foam. At a little under 16 pounds, it’s easy to move around, and its machine-washable zip-off cover made of polyester, cotton, rayon, and spandex makes it easy to clean. However, this topper can not be flipped. Casper offers a 30-night risk-free trial, and its toppers are backed by a 5-year limited mattress topper warranty.
Viscosoft’s gel-infused memory foam topper is reasonably plush but still has a medium to medium-firm feel, based on my experience lying on it. Like the Dormeo, it earns first-rate marks for support and convenience. But this topper envelops the body more than the Dormeo, scoring on the warmer side for heat retention. Our lab data suggests that those who sleep hot are likely to feel that difference. Additional features include corner straps to help keep it in place and a removable machine-washable rayon cover. The topper can also be flipped and rotated, though it weighs 27 pounds (among the heaviest on this list), so you might need a helper. Viscosoft offers a full refund up to 90 days after purchase if you’re not satisfied with your topper. It’s also backed by a five-year warranty from the date of original purchase.
Air Purifiers
The HoMedics AP-T200 has impressive performance and an attractive design, similar to the AP-C500. It performs impressively on both high and low speeds and is easy to use. Just expect a fair amount of noise while it’s running. The major difference—this model is designed for medium rooms of 150-350 square feet so it’s smaller in size and has a smaller price tag.
A portable purifier that keeps your air clean and matches your mid-century modern design aesthetic—yes, please. The HoMedics AP-C500 is a large-room air purifier with a budget-friendly price tag (and an additional 20 percent off coupon makes this deal even friendlier). It performs impressively on both high and low speeds and is easy to use. Just expect a fair amount of noise while it’s running.
Humidifiers
This humidifier, rated for small rooms, is a fantastic balance of quality and price. It’s plenty capable, and it has an indicator when the water level is low, so it’s easy to know when you need to add more (and it shuts off automatically if you don’t get there in time).
Air Mattresses
The 17-inch-high Simmons Beautyrest Hi Loft Raised is nearly half the cost of the most expensive air mattress in our ratings, and it performs better than the pricier models. During the initial inflation in our convenience tests, our testers found it took about 3 minutes to reach full firmness; it then took 4 minutes to let all that air out. It earns an Excellent rating on our deflection test, meaning this is an easier mattress to get up off after you sit down. This model comes with a detachable electric pump and storage bag, and it folds down to 6x12x17 inches.
Hair Bonnets
PrinceHairCompany Satin Bonnet
The PrinceHairCompany bonnet is beautiful, soft, and roomy—perfect for those with long hair or protective styles. Its adjustable tie offers a secure, comfortable fit without leaving marks. However, its oversized design can feel bulky or hot for short-haired sleepers, and it may slide around overnight.
