Roku’s newest 4K streaming player is the Streaming Stick Plus, a compact model that plugs into your TV’s HDMI input and gets power from the TV’s USB port. Unlike the pricier Roku Streaming Stick 4K, this model doesn’t support Dolby Vision HDR or Atmos audio, but it does support HDR10+. It utilizes Roku’s latest version of its simple, easy-to-navigate interface and comes with Roku’s standard Voice Remote.

The 22.5-watt Anker Nano Portable Charger aces our tests and is petite enough to easily slip into a bag or even pocket. It has enough juice to charge an average smartphone battery from empty once or top it off a few times, and its two USB-C ports can charge two devices simultaneously.

This two-meter cord, designed for the iPhone 5 through the iPhone 14, survived 11,500 bends without failing in the rig we created to test charging cord durability. That’s the equivalent of more than six years’ worth of use, according to our estimates.

Our tester, a professional illustrator, said it felt like drawing with a real pen on paper, and drawing felt like "a dream." It offers palm rejection and tilt support. Ouidad’s Advanced Climate Control Heat & Humidity gel was a standout in our evaluations of the best hair gels, earning the distinction of being best for good holds and knots. Our evaluator found that it provides the perfect amount of light hold while not weighing down her curls, controls frizz well, and has the silkiest texture, allowing for even distribution throughout the hair strands. The smell of this gel is very light and does not linger on hair for long.

The Gillette Venus was a clear winner in our evaluations of the best razors. The silver handle is pleasantly weighted, and it has a grippy spot for your thumb that makes it easier to hold in the shower, and the razor head has a large lubricating strip. Since the head is so bulky, you may need to angle it carefully while shaving difficult areas, such as the hollow of an underarm or an ankle. 

We found the Onlyone Water quite easy to use and charge. Despite its smaller countertop footprint, it holds a considerable amount of water, allowing for longer flossing sessions without needing a refill. The removable tank features a large opening, making it easy to fill.

Though the H2ofloss is a relatively compact cordless model, it offers impressive capacity. It’s on the noisier side of the flossers we tested, and it earned only a middling score for ease of use, primarily because the position and action of the power button make it easy to accidentally turn it on, which could mean a mess for you. On the other hand, the tube that transmits water through the unit is both highly flexible and weighted, allowing you to use the device at a wide variety of angles without interrupting the water flow. That could be useful if you’re using it on someone else, like a child or an elderly parent.

The E.L.F. Professional set of makeup brushes features soft, even bristles that don’t shed, and lightweight handles that are tapered at the ends and comfortable to hold. The set includes 12 brushes that will make you feel like you struck gold. The eyeshadow brush has densely packed bristles that deliver a pigmented amount of cream, liquid, or powder shadow. The set gets extra brownie points for clear labeling on each brush in easy-to-read black font against a white handle (it’s a good-looking set, to boot). 

The E.L.F. Cosmetics Glow Reviver Melting lip balm comes in a wide range of colors that tend to be more pigmented than many of the options we tried in our recent evaluations of the best tinted lip balms. Several of our evaluators appreciated the colors available, which were subtle enough to add interest without committing to a full face of makeup.

Detangling brushes save not only time but also effort when tackling knots or an unruly mane. And for me, the FHI Heat Unbrush is the one to beat. It earned the distinction of being the best for curly hair in our evaluations of the best detangling brushes, and our testers liked its lightweight feel. I personally switched to it because my old brush had those beads at the end of the bristles, and they were snagging in my hair and ripping out my extensions. The Unbrush has smooth bristles, so it glides through my hair so smoothly and detangles without catching my extensions. It’s available in lots of colors at various prices, but this is the lowest price you’ll see.

When running to the salon for a quick manicure isn’t an option, the next best thing might just be quick-dry nail polish. For CR writer Jessica Waller, it’s this version from Olive & June, which has become a go-to. “The formula glides on effortlessly and dries in a mere fraction of the time as other non-speedy polishes, which means I can get back to typing, cooking, and gardening without missing a beat.”

One of our editor’s setting spray of choice is this one by Patrick Starrr. An integral part of her makeup routine, especially for a long day or night, she prefers this version because it’s light and dries instantly. “I hate using setting sprays where you have to fan your face to get them to dry, especially because I feel like they always get in my eyes and leave me tearing and my mascara running,” she says. “This stuff is the exact opposite.”

This Eucerin Advanced Hydration SPF 50 spray is a solid performer with broad-spectrum protection. Its tested SPF comes close to its labeled SPF 50. Like the sunscreen above, it also has that plastic fragrance-free aroma, and it left a slightly draggy film on the testers’ skin.

If you’re on a strict budget, you can’t go wrong with Glamburg bath towels. They’re small, measuring 27 inches wide by 54 inches long, and they’re exceptionally soft. These 100 percent cotton towels come in a rainbow of color choices, burgundy, hot pink, orange, and turquoise blue among them.

This candle warmer is much simpler, if you don’t want or have space for a lamp like those above. It warms quickly and doesn’t get hot, making it a safe option. It’s best for smaller rooms, and automatically shuts off after 8 hours. Our tester noted the scent wasn’t as strong as with the lamps in larger rooms.

The Cozy Essential Vacuum Storage Bags come in various combo packs. This set includes 20 bags, with four each of these sizes: jumbo, large, medium, small, and travel roll-up. Our evaluator liked that they were easy to both pump and compress, and the variety of sizes offers a lot of convenience for travel and storage.

This bamboo toilet paper was an all-around winner: sturdy, easy to start a roll, and individually wrapped in stylish paper. It’s not the softest—but on the other hand, it’s not linty. This three-ply paper comes in a pack of 12 rolls.

This caulk aced four of our five tests and didn’t crack when exposed to hot and cold temperatures. It’s marked down 15 percent.

The Swiffer PowerMop is a spray mop that dispenses a cleaning solution when you press a button. You can attach a pad to the mop head and discard it once you’re done cleaning. According to the manufacturer, it is safe to use on various finished surfaces, including finished wood, luxury vinyl, tile, and laminate. The Swiffer PowerMop excels at absorbing liquids and removing sticky substances, such as honey, especially when the cleaning solution is used.

Although hard to close, these are very sturdy bags, and make a great option for parents with toddlers who have a penchant for throwing their snacks.

This dish soap produced rich suds and had an elevated, herbal scent like no other we tested. It is also available in an easy-to-dispense 16-ounce bottle.

Tub O’Towel Heavy-Duty Cleaning Wipes are big enough for heavy-duty cleaning and reusing. Dried-up sweet potato, milk, hot sauce, and rice were no match for these wipes. They were also easy to dispense from the tub.

For a middling price, Finish Powerball Ultimate dishwasher pods deliver above-average results in our tests, with excellent scores in both cleaning dishes and resisting film and mineral deposits. They also ward off water spots. They include scum-fighting enzymes, but no bleach.

Pair this lickable food mat with a delectable treat to keep your kitty content and happily occupied. Mary Beth Quirk, one of CR’s shopping editors, spreads Churu purée treats on the mat with the spatula provided and attaches them to her cat Frannie’s food tray with the suction cups on the bottom. “She’ll spend minutes on end cleaning out every nook and cranny, leaving me to work in peace,” she says. 

This scooper offers a practical and hygienic solution for waste removal, featuring a swivel bin that facilitates easy collection from various surfaces. It includes an adjustable rake and handle, allowing height customization to suit individual needs. It’s already a low-cost investment, and it doesn’t go on sale often, so saving a few extra bucks makes it an even better value.

Lauren Kiesel, a senior user experience researcher at CR, tried this Tangle Teaser pet brush on her cockapoo (a cocker spaniel and poodle mix) puppy. She found the brush to be gentle, and the shape gave her different grip options as she maneuvered around her pet. It handled basic brushing with ease, but she had to use a sturdier wire brush to tackle more intense matting.

Even CR writer Lisa Fogarty’s curly-haired labradoodle, Blake, is a fan of the Tangle Teezer Detangling Brush. In fact, she found that Blake reacted with excitement to being brushed. According to Lisa, the brush is easy to hold, and its width is helpful in detangling her pup’s fur quickly.

This is a great, budget-friendly option if you’re not sure your pets will adapt from a bowl to a fountain. You can try it out without investing too much (and you can always invest more in an upgrade later on if you want). The Veken water fountain, consisting of five parts, was intuitive for our tester to assemble, and the carbon and foam filter replacements are low-cost as well, at $10 for a four-pack or $24 for 16. It was the noisiest option, but that didn’t deter the tester’s pets. And the flower can be removed for a low-profile bubbler effect rather than a raised fountain.

Veken Packing Cubes, which are $2 less than they were at the end of October, provide great bang for your buck, though they are a few dollars more than we’ve seen recently. This set has the largest capacity among the cubes we tried, and you get eight different ones to stay organized: four small, medium, large, and extra large, a laundry bag, a shoe bag, a toiletries bag, and an accessories bag. The laundry bag, in particular, is on the larger side, which can be a real asset when you’re on a longer trip.

The Bagail 8Set Packing Cubes won over CR’s evaluator with the sheer number and variety of cubes it offers. In addition to three packing cubes (medium, large, and extra large) that have mesh on the top panels to help you identify the contents inside quickly, it also comes with two zipper bags, a cosmetics bag, a shoe bag, and a drawstring bag that you can use to separate your dirty laundry. The extra organizational features were ultimately what gained Bagail the edge over the other packing cubes CR tried.
