If you’re here, you love a good bargain, and I’m the perfect person to help you find one. I spend every day combing through page after page of retailer sites, checking prices of everything we test here at Consumer Reports. So I know right away when something is at a better discount than usual. There are no major sales for a while, so top-tier deals are a little harder to come by. But that doesn’t mean there are no good savings, and I’ve curated a list of the best offers available right now.
A deal isn’t just about the size of the discount. I’ve chosen these products because they’re not only at great prices, but they’re also top performers in our lab tests and home evaluations. I’m a firm believer in a good deal starting with a high-quality product, so that’s always the No. 1 factor in determining whether something is worth your money. Price is obviously important, too, so I’m taking into account the average price, the typical discounts, and how often an item goes on sale when I determine how impressive a deal really is.
There are other items on sale as well, so if you want to keep hunting for more discounts, head over to the CR Deals Hub, where I share the top offers on everything CR tests, including tech devices like headphones and TVs, kitchen appliances like air fryers and stand mixers, and home goods like air purifiers and lawn care tools.
The Shark SpeedStyle Pro Flex competes with the highly sought-after Dyson models, but at more than half the price. Like the Dyson models, our testers liked how easily the attachments snapped onto the hair dryer, and how you can rotate them without removing them. Its airflow is so strong that when turned on, it has a kickback.
It has another high-end feature: its IQ Speed Styling & Drying Suite automatically adjusts heat and speed depending on the attachment. The attachments are unique and feature-rich, including the Frizzfighter, which is helpful in making sleek bangs (and flyaways). The diffuser features different prong lengths depending on hair type, and its brush attachment includes boar bristles. Its highest temperature reading in our tests was 115° F.
This hair dryer is only $20 more than its best price.
We think Edifier S1000W stereo speakers are a bargain even at their regular price. At nearly $200 off, matching the best price we’ve ever seen, this deal is a no-brainer for a music lover looking for truly impressive sound without breaking the bank. In terms of convenience, the S1000W adds multiroom capability as well as the option of using a more robust WiFi connection to stream your music.
Google’s newest smart thermostat, the Nest Learning Thermostat 4th gen, is $20 less than it its recent sale price. The thermostat comes with a remote temperature sensor that you can place in another room to balance heating and cooling. It’s one of just a few Matter-compatible smart thermostats on the market, meaning it works with any major smart home system, including Apple Home.
If you’re looking for an air purifier for a small room, the Blueair Mini Restful might fit the bill. Amazon currently has a better discount than anyone else. The Mini Restful earns the CR Recommended designation because it performed very well in our tests. Running at high speed, it aced the dust, pollen, and smoke removal tests, and did nearly as well operating at low speed. It gets a middling score for noise output at high speed, which is common across every model, but it’s actually pretty quiet at low speed, making it a great option for all-day use in, say, a home office.
The Amazon Fire TV Cube is at the best price we’ve ever seen. It’s a mashup of an Amazon Echo and a 4K Fire TV streamer. Its universal remote control capabilities let you control a host of other compatible A/V gear, including TVs, soundbars, receivers, and even some cable and satellite boxes. New features include HDMI 2.1 connections—one input and one output—for controlling other devices using your voice. (One cool trick is that the Cube will also upscale any content from a source connected to its HDMI input.) Other features include support for WiFi 6E, support for both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ HDR, and an Off button that disconnects the microphones if you don’t want the device in an always-listening mode.
The unassuming, inexpensive Hamilton Beach 12-Cup Programmable 49465R, which typically costs $40, might be easy to miss, but it can brew a mean cup of joe at a fantastic price. It has all the essentials in a basic black-plastic finish. It’s programmable and has auto-shutoff. What’s more, it does a superb job in our brewing test and can make a fresh pot in just 10 minutes. This model also performs strongly for convenience and carafe handling in CR’s lab tests. But it’s worth mentioning that it is more prone to overflow, unlike some other models we’ve tested.
Pod Company Pro IcePod 2.0
This portable ice bath from Pod Company is now $20 less than I’ve ever seen, making it an even better deal than usual. It’s a great option if you’re thinking of investing in something like this to keep at home. In our evaluations, it was easy to set up and take apart. It is smaller than the comparable Cold Pod XL (which costs a bit more), but otherwise, the two are very similar. So it may be better suited for smaller individuals. For example, one of our evaluators was around 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds and found this one to be a bit cramped compared to the other model. That said, if you don’t mind close quarters and like the price to test out ice baths at home, this could be just what you’re looking for.
This wireless Bluetooth iPod/iPad/cellphone-centric headphone from JBL is a solid pick. The JBL Tune 660NC delivers very good sound quality and excellent active noise reduction. These headphones have a closed design, so they will provide some muffling of external noises and also reduce the amount of sound that escapes from the headphones.
