Design and features:The WI-SP600N works with or without the noise cancelling feature being turned on, and you can use the noise-canceling feature without listening to music. The earphones have an integrated microphone and volume, music player, and call connect/disconnect controls for paired Bluetooth devices. Additional features include NFC Bluetooth pairing and support for Apple Siri and Google Assistant digital voice assistants when it is used with Bluetooth devices that have those capabilities. This model is claimed by the manufacturer to be water resistant and comes with four pairs of ear pieces in various sizes, two pairs of ear bowl supports in various sizes, and a USB charging cable. The free Sony Headphones Connect app download for Apple and Android mobile devices adds an additional ambient sound monitoring mode, can act as a audio program player, and can provide tonal balance equalization.
Sound quality: We found the WI-SP600N provides Very Good active noise reduction, and regardless of whether the noise cancelling feature was turned on or off, it delivers sound quality that falls in the Very Good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks. The overall sound can best be summarized as boomy and a touch soft. Bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is boomy and somewhat prominent. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is fairly even, but slightly hazy and grainy. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended, but is slightly sizzly (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer have a sound reminiscent of bacon frying). The sound has a good sense of liveliness and is somewhat open -- sound-wise it almost seems like you don't have anything plugging up your ears. These earphones provide Very Good noise reduction that is fairly even across most of the frequency range with low frequencies reduced the most. When the noise cancelling feature is turned on an extremely faint hiss can be heard when there is no audio program to drown it out.
Comfort: As typical of in-ear models they produce a sense of pressure in the ear canal opening might be uncomfortable for some; the earpiece material seems to be more abrasive than most, so some users may experience ear canal chafing. Many users will find that this model fits securely even during vigorous head movement, but users with smaller ear bowls might find that the supplied ear bowl supports feel too large. The sound of the earphone connecting cable rubbing on clothing may be transmitted by the earphones, and the connecting cable may snag on clothing and if so might pull the earphones loose.
