Design and features:These headphones can be used wirelessly with Bluetooth devices or can be cord connected. When cord connected they have low sensitivity; so while they can provide satisfying volume levels when used with home audio equipment and higher powered portable audio devices, they may not be a good match for lower-powered portables. The Major III BT has an integrated microphone and volume, music player function, and call connect/disconnect controls for use with paired Bluetooth devices. Additional features include an audio jack on right earcup provides a cable input for wired use and an output for a second set of wire connected headphones during Bluetooth use, and earcups that fold for ease of storage/transport. It also offers Siri digital voice assistant support when Bluetooth paired to Apple devices that have that capability. This model comes with a detachable coiled 48-inch long audio cable that extends to more than 60 inches with a built-in mic and call answer/music player control button for cable connected iPhone/iPod/iPad and smartphone use and a USB charging cable.
Sound quality: We found the Major III BT delivers sound quality that falls in the Good range - it reproduces music and voice reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. The overall sound can be summarized as lean with boomy bass. Bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is boomy and somewhat prominent. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is slightly thin, nasal, hazy, and grainy. The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is extended, but is somewhat prominent and sizzly (sounds that should have a delicate shimmer have a sound reminiscent of bacon frying). While the sound has a decent sense of liveliness it is somewhat closed-in (sound-wise it is somewhat obvious that you have something covering your ears). There was no significant difference between Bluetooth and cord connected sound quality.
Comfort: We found that these headphones produce a moderate sense of pressure on the ears. As typical of on-ear models the ear pads might feel hot and/or sticky after prolonged use. When wearing this model while walking the vibrations from each foot step can be heard through the headphones.
