PHOTO QUALITY. This 16-megapixel rugged and waterproof camera captured images with very good quality. We judged this model excellent for outdoor performance, such as shooting landscapes in the daytime; good for indoor performance, such as photographing a well-lit basketball game in a gym; very good for performance under natural light without a flash, such as shooting under an overcast sky.

FLASH. The Stylus TG-4 captured flash shots that were good. In our distance test, we found the camera's flash could illuminate most subjects that are closer to the camera, but had some problems with distant subjects. The flash also has good, relatively even coverage.

LENS. This camera includes a 4x zoom lens, bit more zoom than a standard 3x. The lens also has very wide-angle (25mm) capability that's very useful for landscapes and group portraits, although you may notice a bit of distortion when you're shooting faces up close, for instance.

IMAGE STABILIZER. In low-light settings, it has excellent performance and almost never produced blurry photos.

SPEED. In terms of performance, the Olympus Stylus TG-4 powers up very quickly. It has a short interval between shots, which can be important when shooting fast-moving or unpredictable subjects.

VIDEO. The Olympus Stylus TG-4 takes only fair video. It captures full HD video at 1920 x 1080. As for sound, it captures fair audio in stereo.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS. It has a rugged body. It claims to be waterproof. It has HDR (high-dynamic range) settings. It has a built-in GPS tagging feature.

The Stylus TG-4 is a 16-megapixel camera with 4x optical zoom and a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 25mm-100mm. It has a 2.9-inch LCD (460,000 pixels). We consider this model a rugged-and-waterproof camera. The Stylus TG-4 stores photos and video on SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards and has 55MB of on-board storage. It captures images as JPEG or RAW files at a top resolution of 4608 x 3456 and full HD-resolution video as MOV, AVI files at a top resolution of 1920 x 1080. It has a rugged camera body. It has a high-dynamic-range mode, which helps capture as much tonal range possible. The image stabilization system for this camera is mechanical. The Stylus TG-4 measures 4.5 inches wide by 2.6 inches high by 1.2 inches deep, and weighs 9 ounces (with battery, memory card, and strap).
