Sound quality: BeFree Sound's Dual 12" (BFS-4600) had fair overall sound quality. Although the bass has decent impact it is somewhat subdued and the mid and lower bass is lacking. Midrange is somewhat grainy, and hazy, a bit thin and plasticky sounding. Treble is smeared, somewhat subdued, slightly sizzly and upper treble is muted. The overall sound is congested, and while it does a so-so job of recovering room ambience; that ambience is a bit obscured by the slightly plasticky quality of the midrange. Provides a decent volume level in a large sized room. Whenever the the unit is on it produces faint "chirping" noises.
Ease of use: We found the BeFree Sound Dual 12" ease of use to be very good overall. Bluetooth pairing requires a press of an ambiguously labeled multifunction button and then the selection of the unit from Bluetooth selection list on source device; the unit provides an obvious indication that the unit is in pairing mode as well as when pairing has actually occurred. The volume control is not prominent (behind the unit) yet its a large knob, well labeled with index markings which are easily repeatable. Works with line in and Bluetooth inputs. Switching sources: Source selector is a ambiguously labeled multi-function button that is not prominently placed; there are persistent indicators of source selection.
