Sound quality: Sony's XE200 had Fair overall sound quality - this model has sonic shortcomings that leave a lot to be desired when listening to music but don't rule it out for dialog. Bass has decent impact, doesn't go deep, and while subdued is still a touch a boomy. Midrange is somewhat grainy, and a bit thin, hazy, and plasticky . Treble is fairly extended but is a bit smeared and sizzly and the lower to mid treble is a bit subdued. Does a so-so job of recovering room ambience, sounds somewhat congested. Changing the speaker setting from stereo to mono did not significantly change the sound. Provides a decent volume level in a small sized room. When two units are combined to form a stereo pair the sound field can be made wider depending on placement.
