Sound quality: Logitech's UE Megaboom has good overall sound quality. Bass has good impact and goes fairly deep, but the deepest level is choked off. Midrange is fairly clear and a bit warm but slightly edgy and can sound a bit like it's coming out of a tunnel. Treble is extended but somewhat prominent and smeared. The speaker does a decent job recovering room ambience, but there is a slight loss of detail and complexity. There's no significant sound-quality difference between Bluetooth and wired connections. The unit also provides a decent volume level in a small- to medium-sized room. When combined with another unit as a stereo pair, the speaker produces an echoey and somewhat congested sound. And although the sound field is wider due to placement, it still doesn't extend much beyond the two speakers.
Ease of use: We found the system's ease of use to be good overall. Bluetooth pairing is pretty simple, but the Megaboom uses controls that are not clearly marked, and switching between Bluetooth and wired connected audio sources is more difficult than with other speakers. Also, various functions, such as turning the speaker on and off, can produce tone bursts, which are relatively loud and unavoidable. The unit lacks a remote, which isn't an issue if it's near at hand or paired with a mobile Bluetooth device that can serve that function.
