With data on more than 80,000 models, CR's member surveys reveal the brands that last
The range is the workhorse of the kitchen, so it’s only natural that you want it to work perfectly every day.
In our most recent reliability surveys, we asked members about their experiences with 80,325 ranges they purchased between 2011 and 2021.
“Around 81 percent of the ranges in our survey that were purchased 10 years ago are still in use,” says Simon Slater, associate director of survey research at Consumer Reports.
But longevity and reliability aren’t the same thing, and just because so many ranges make it to the 10-year mark doesn’t mean they don’t need repairs along the way. Our surveys find big differences between brands with respect to the frequency of repairs needed to keep ranges cooking their best.

From our surveys, we have reliability ratings for 15 major manufacturers of electric ranges: Amana, Bosch, Café (formerly GE Café), Dacor, Electrolux, Frigidaire, GE, Hotpoint, Jenn-Air, Kenmore, KitchenAid, LG, Maytag, Samsung, and Whirlpool.
