Yamaha has recalled 10,100 EF2000iS recreational inverter generators because the fuel tank can leak, posing a fire and burn hazard.

Neither Yamaha nor the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have received any reports of incidents or injuries. Consumer Reports previously tested a Yamaha generator that is part of this recall, but we did not observe a fuel tank leak in the course of our testing.

Details of the Yamaha Inverter Generator Recall

The recall: About 10,100 Yamaha EF2000iS portable inverter gasoline generators sold exclusively at Yamaha Motorsports dealerships. The recall applies to any EF2000iS model with the serial numbers 4543288 through 4553706. The serial number can be found on a label below the exhaust outlet on the left side of the generator.

The risk: The fuel tank can leak gasoline, posing a fire or burn hazard.

Incidents/injuries: No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Where and when sold: Yamaha Motorsports dealerships from June 2018 to October 2019. The generators sold for about $900.

The remedy: Stop using the recalled generator and contact Yamaha Motorsports. The company will schedule free repairs at local dealerships.
