When the Subaru Ascent debuted, it took on and outscored the previous-generation Toyota Highlander as the best three-row midsized SUV we tested. But the landscape has changed.

Toyota redesigned the Highlander for 2020, introducing a V6-powered version and a hybrid. The new Highlander joins an increasingly competitive segment. Not only is it challenged by the Ascent but it also competes with the impressive Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride
