More on Toaster Ovens

Every so often, the unexpected happens in life. But it doesn't usually involve a toaster oven.

Recently, our testers were evaluating toaster ovens in CR's kitchen appliance lab—reheating lasagna, baking cookies, and making tons of toast. That's when we noticed something strange happening in the Bella Air Convection Fryer Oven Dehydrator 14754 toaster oven: toast lift-off! During our toasting test, a slice of white bread suddenly started hovering above the pan and then took off flying inside the toaster oven, even bumping into the glass.

You can see for yourself in the video above. What could be causing this singular phenomenon? We had our own chief scientific officer, James Dickerson, weigh in. We also reached out to Bella for an explanation. Turns out there is a science-based theory for this seemingly otherworldly occurrence, as you'll see in the video. But don't let that stop you from sharing it with your friends and scaring the daylights out of them!

By the way, our tests found that this Bella toaster oven earns our lowest rating, a Poor, in our one-slice toast tests. Not because the toast floated, but because it turned out too dark on the medium setting.
