Under certain conditions, it's possible for black ice to be present on roadways when the temperature is above 32º F.

Most newer cars issue a warning (such as a chime and a snowflake icon) when temperatures drop into the 30s to remind drivers that ice may be forming or already exist. Some cars also have a second alert to indicate when the air temperature has dropped to the freezing point. Remember that bridges and overpasses can ice over before other roadways become slippery.
