About - Samsung RF323TEDB[SR]

The Samsung RF323TEDB[SR] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, french-door refrigerator models like the RF323TEDB[SR] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Poor Ice Maker
Poor In Door Ice Maker
Best Uses
We purchased this refrigerator along with several other Samsung appliances when we remodeled our kitchen a couple of years ago. We liked this refrigerator due to the size and features. As a rule we generally don't buy extended warranties but Lowes had a discount on the warranty and because this refrigerator had two ice makers we bought the warranty. We were thankful we had the extended warranty. The in door ice maker has been a major problem. Initially it would leak water and freeze to the point where you couldn't even remove the ice bin. It also would not produce ice. It has been repaired several times and replaced. Once again it is no longer working. The last repairman said it needed to be replaced again. However getting that work done has proven to be a challenge. In the past three months we have called Lowes warranty service and scheduled repairs and the repair company didn't keep those appointments. We made another call and asked for a new company, only to have the same issue. The new company has missed three of the four appointments we have scheduled. They missed another appointment today. We're hoping we get some satisfaction before the extended warranty runs out. At least the bottom ice maker has continued to work. If it weren't for the ice maker issue we would probably recommend this product. It's roomy, looks great, and had everything we were looking for. However, due to the poor quality of the ice maker, and the poor service we can't recommend.

After researching, as well as knowing someone who owned a Samsung French-door refrigerator, I opted to buy the model RF323TEDBSR. It is beautifully designed and has awesome interior lighting. I have never owned a refrigerator with a bottom freezer, but I really love it. There are so many options to arranging the shelves in the fridge section as well as shelving that can be adjusted to allow for tall items - cool! There are two things that I wish were different about this fridge. First one is the ice/water dispenser. They are designed one on top of the other. I suppose for a more sleek look. I would have preferred to select ice or water and use one dispenser. But, it's really just something that I will have to personally get used to and not a deal breaker at all. The other is noise. This is by far the most noisy refrigerator I've ever owned. You can hear the motor humming. I think Samsung should correct this problem. We have even had friends quickly look over at the refrigerator and I have to tell them it's just the motor running. If the motor was quieter, I would have rated this a 5-star. I love it, regardless. Nice fridge that suits our needs with ample room in both the refrigerator section and the freezer!

Two weeks ago I submitted a review recounting Samsung's outrageous beyond belief behavior when our 15-month old, 31.6 cu. ft. refrigerator died. After I posted my review on CR and sent a similar report to Samsung's president's office, I got a call the following day. After brief discussion, Samsung agreed to send me approximately what I had paid for the refrigerator. So, in fairness, I need to complete the picture. At the same time, it should be noted that I received normal justice only after a long delay and only in the wake of a big and time-consuming fuss on my part.
