About - LG WM8000H[V]A

The LG WM8000H[V]A is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine models like the WM8000H[V]A are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.
About This Brand

South Korean company LG was the first to market with steam washers; the company claims its machines provide real steam (created by a steam generator). The latest wrinkle from LG is what it calls the Allergiene cycle. That cycle, says LG, reduces and removes 95 percent of dust mites and pet dander from a load. LG washers range in price from $900 to $1,600.

Comment:
We bought this washer to replace a failing extra-large capacity top load washer, and we couldn't be happier with it. We have triplet teen girls and they generate a lot of laundry. We were washing an average of 1.5 loads per day with our old one, and with this one we have cut the number of loads in half, and the clothes come out cleaner. The steam feature is also nice.

I was able to wash 21 full size bath towels without a problem. It would have taken 3 loads in my last washer. I can also wash all of our bedding in one load without overloading it. On the other side of the spectrum, I can use the quick wash setting for a small load and get it done in about 15 minutes.

I also noticed that the clothes come out much dryer due to the high speed spin. This has cut down on the drying time by 1/3 or 1/2 of what it used to take, which save me money too. It's also extremely quiet, so we can run it at night and still be able to sleep.

I haven't had any of the stinky washer problems that seem to plauge front load washers, but I leave the door cracked when not in use, and use the Tub Clean feature once a month like it recommends.

So far, I don't have anything bad to say about this washer. It's better than I expected, and it was worth the money.

One piece of advice is that if you buy this (or any other front load washer), install some water hammer arrestors on the supply lines. If you don't, your pipes will shake throughout the house as the washer fills. You can find them at any hardware store, and they make a big difference when the fill valves slam shut.

I was a little nervous about buyin a washer that costs so much but now after having it I wouldnt get any other. This model is the quietest washer I have ever been around and I have installed and tested dozens of different ones in my line of work. I have worked on many washers and I am literally impressed with the design and user friendly controls. I washed work towles in it and they came out smelling clean a compared to normally they were oily smelling in my older Maytag. Trust me LG has a winner here and the dryer model that goes with it is a winner as well!!!

Comment:
Purchased LG washer on 02Dec12, when it was delivered it did not work. The first technician that diagnosed it could not figure out what was wrong and stated that it needs to be sent back. LG sent out another technician who stated that a part needs to be backordered, the part never came in and was backordered again. It is going on three months now and we have to go to a laundry mat because LG cannot figure out what is wrong with their new model washer and are unwilling to exchange it or take back the set.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

NON-REVERSIBLE WASHER DOOR
Hello, We just had our LG8000HVA washer and dryer installed today. Wow, the front door on the washer really doesnt reverse? Seriously for $2700.00 we cant get a washer with a reversible door. The engineers who applied the new magnet close probably wanted to save money and didnt want to include two magnets. Bad decision as this washing machine washes well but will get a bad review from us. Our washing machine water intake valves are on one side of our laundry room and the dryer vent is on the other. The room is small so tubing running here and there for long distances just wont do. LG, you may wish to hire new EEs and MEs. We may have to call Home Depot and say, Come get them please. Please comment. I would love to hear the reasons behind a non-reversible washer door.
