About - Chicco KeyFit 30

The Chicco KeyFit 30 is part of the car seat test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, infant car seat models like the KeyFit 30 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Crash protection:
Evaluation of a seat’s potential for providing an additional margin of safety in simulated 35mph frontal crashes when compared to the performance of similar models. Evaluation is based on injury criteria measured on standardized child-size dummies, head contact with the back of a simulated front seat, and the car seat’s ability to remain intact during the course of testing.

Ease of use:
Includes the clarity of instructions, installing the seat, adjusting harness positions, placing a child in the seat, securing the harness, and removing the child.

Fit to vehicle LATCH:
A rating of how easy it is to securely and correctly install each seat using the LATCH system in a variety of vehicles and how well the seats fit each vehicle once installed.

Love It. They've thought of almost everything. Our preemie was 4 lbs. when we brought him home from hospital. It's served us well right up to 1st birthday. Base installs easily. It comes with built in level and is adjustable to make sure it's the right fit. Dedicated place for straps and LATCH connectors when not in use! Love that you can just click into and out of base without disturbing baby. We have the stroller, too, and you can just click out of the car and into the stroller. Soooo much better than what we used for our previous child.

And when you sit the carseat on the ground or table, u can rock it back and forth.

As far as improvements go, I'd like to see an additional shoulder strap slot for our growing baby. He's not 30 lbs. yet, but in winter clothes it's becoming too tight a fit! It's very sturdy, but I wish it was a little lighter. Then again, my biceps are looking pretty good.

Comment:
We purchased this carseat because of the great ratings, however our 3 month old son hates this seat and has since day 1. It is very uncomfortable for him despite attempts to adjust the straps, pad the seat, etc. Although it may be the safest one to purchase, driving around with a very unhappy baby makes car rides very stressful. We are going to replace this one ASAP despite the investment we already made. I've read other reviews about this seat stating that it is uncomfortable for infants, so I know we are not alone. I would not recommend this seat to anyone.

On the plus side, it is easy to use. It snaps into the car seat base easily, as well as the caddy stroller.

Love the loud clicks that let you know the seat is locked into the base. The simple one pull strap to tighten is so quick and easy.

It is heavy but I don't feel that is a con. To me it's a reassurance that I know it is well made..who wants to transport their baby in flimsy plastic?

We are still using at 19 months as our little one is still only 19 lbs.
