Easy installation is a top selling point with faucet-mounted water filters. So we were curious to learn what innovations distinguish the new line of Pur faucet filters, which claim to be the "first and only faucet mount design that installs with one easy click." We haven't tested the new models yet in our labs, but we have reviewed their installation manual and
product literature.
A downside to faucet-mounted water filters is that they can't be used with most pull-down or spray faucets. Has Pur solved that shortcoming with its one-click design? Alas, no. The new filters work only with traditional faucets. Maybe it eliminated the need to replace the aerator on your faucet with a special adaptor? Nope, you still might need to do that (although you wouldn't guess so from watching
this video from Pur).
It seems the real "ease" of the filter comes only after you've installed the adaptor. At that point, you can snap the filter on or off your faucet in one simple click. But it's not entirely clear why you would want to do that.
We'll take a closer look at the latest Pur faucet filters in our next review of water filters. But at first glance, its one-click installation doesn't appear to be a game changer. Fortunately, Pur tells us it hasn't altered the actual filter that's used in its faucet-mounted models to take impurities out of your tap water. In our
latest tests, the Pur Vertical FM-3700 model was very good at removing lead and excellent at removing chloroform.
