The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada have announced today a recall of glass mirror wardrobe furniture doors sold by IKEA. The mirrors may unexpectedly detach from the door, fall and shatter, posing a risk of cutting consumers.
According to the CPSC, IKEA sold 1,700 of its Pax Aurland mirrored doors in the U.S. and another 500 were sold in Canada for about $60 from October 2010 to September 2011. And while there have been no reported incidents of the doors in North America failing, the company has received 14 customer complaints in Europe with one minor injury.
This recall involves a wardrobe door with full-length glass mirror with model number 101-604-51, supplier number 12650 and production weeks 1039 through 1048 (YYWW). The product name (PAX AURLAND), IKEA and production week are printed on the rear of the mirror door on the lower edge. The glass mirror—about 19-1/2 inches wide, 93 inches high and 7/8 inches thick—is secured with metal fastenings at top and bottom.
Consumers should immediately contact their local IKEA store for instructions on returning the mirror wardrobe door for a free replacement door. For additional information, customers can contact IKEA toll-free (888-966-4532) or visit the firm's website at www.ikea-usa.com.
