Apple MacBook and MacBook Pro users may be entitled to either cash back or replacements for an allegedly defective power adapter that came with their laptops (or that they purchased separately for these computers), if the settlement is approved.

The plaintiffs in the case allege that the now-discontinued MagSafe adapter is defective and can "fray, spark, overheat, melt, or otherwise prematurely fail," according to a press release from co-lead counsel Mehri & Skalet.

Consumers who had to buy a replacement adapter for a failed MagSafe would receive a cash reimbursement (from $35 to $79). And if a MacBook or MacBook Pro owner's MagSafe adapter is showing signs of damage, Apple will replace it at no charge.

If you think you may be eligible to benefit from this settlement, act quickly: The deadline of March 21, 2012 is coming up fast.

You can visit a website created for the settlement to find out more details and how to apply: https://www.adaptersettlement.com.
