    Ginny Fahs

    Ginny Fahs is the Director of Product R&D at Consumer Reports’ Innovation Lab. Her group puts technology to work for consumers, developing prototypes and new product offerings that empower people to make informed choices. 

    Ginny leads CR’s research and development on artificial intelligence offerings. She oversaw the launch of AskCR, the first retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) chatbot from a major publisher to be released in production. AskCR answers consumers’ product research questions with CR’s trusted information and is a feature of CR’s digital membership. Ginny also helped establish CR’s research collaboration with the Digital Economy Lab and Institute for Human-Centered AI at Stanford. Together, CR and Stanford are promoting pro-consumer AI agents that are trustworthy and loyal to individuals’ interests.

    Previously, Ginny led the launch of Permission Slip by CR, a mobile app that helps people take back control of their data from companies. Permission Slip received significant media attention including in The Washington Post and on The Today Show, was named one of Fast Company’s Next Big Things In Tech, and contributed to CR winning Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies award. 

    Ginny is active in the public interest technology community as a Board Member for the Digital Harbour Foundation and a Lecturer in Columbia’s Masters in Technology Management program. Prior to joining CR, Ginny was a software engineer at Uber and a Technology Policy Fellow at the Aspen Institute. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History & Literature from Harvard University and a Master’s in Business Administration from INSEAD.
