A seasoned executive with deep senior management experience, Willem van Rijn joined CR in 2025. As Chief Operating Officer, Willem is responsible for the functions that underpin CR’s mission to create a fair and just marketplace for everyone. He oversees the strategies to expand and enhance CR’s operations, as well as the people, processes, and infrastructure critical to that growth. This includes managing finance, accounting, human resources, facilities, and project management.
Willem brings more than 40 years of experience in senior management positions at public and private institutions in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Before joining CR, Willem was managing partner at NextGen Strategic Partners, a consulting company that worked with financial institutions, and prior to that, he led the audit and finance committee at the Ecological Institute, where he served as a board member. Previously, Willem was Chief Operating Officer for Greenpeace International.
He lives in New York City.
