Frigidaire Gas Cooktops Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

Tubes within the plastic burner knobs on the cooktops can break, creating a gas leak and fire risk; over 70,000 30- and 36-inch models are affected

Recalled Frigidaire FFGC3026SS Cooktop Photo: Consumer Reports

Electrolux, the parent company of Frigidaire, has recalled about 77,000 30- and 36-inch gas cooktops sold under the Frigidaire name.

A plastic shaft inside the control knobs can break or crack, which could potentially result in a gas leak and fire hazard. Electrolux has received 63 reports of this happening, including one minor injury from a gas leak, and one reported fire according to a release from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Consumer Reports has tested the 30-inch version of the gas cooktop included in this recall, but not the 36-inch version. Our engineers did not encounter any issues with knobs or knob tubes cracking or breaking during the course of our testing.

Details of the Gas Cooktop Recall

    Products Recalled
    • Frigidaire FFGC3026SS 30-inch gas cooktop, serial numbers 1F00590006 through 1F11090155 and 3F53705075 through 3F01309052

The model number and serial number are located on a label on the underside of the unit. The cooktops have “FRIGIDAIRE” on the front, lower left corner. You should go to the Electrolux product recall page and enter the model and serial number of your cooktop to see if it is included in the recall. Only cooktop models with a plastic shaft in the center of the knobs are included in the recall. Those with a chrome-colored metal shaft are safe to use. You can determine which you have by removing the knobs from your cooktop and inspecting the shaft.
