Vitamix Expands Recall of Blender Containers and Blade Bases to More Than 500,000, Citing Laceration Risk
Reports of 27 injuries tied to certain models in the Ascent and Venturist series
Vitamix has expanded a recall of containers and blade bases from its Ascent and Adventurist series blenders that have been linked to 27 injuries. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the injuries occurred when the containers separated from the base, exposing users’ hands to the blades.
Eleven of those injuries were reported prior to a 2018 recall of 105,000 of the same 8-ounce and 20-ounce blending containers and blade bases. The most recent action raises the number of recalled containers and bases to 569,000. An additional 121,950 recalled components were sold in Canada.
Details of the Recall
Products recalled: About 569,000 blending containers and blade bases, including 105,000 previously recalled in August 2018. Another 121,950 were sold in Canada. The Cleveland-based VitaMix Corporation manufactured the products in the U.S.
Description: This recent recall involves all Ascent and Venturist series 8-ounce blending containers, 20-ounce blending containers, and blade bases, including those that were repaired in the previous recall. The clear containers and black blade bases came with certain Vitamix Venturist and Ascent series blenders, like the Venturist V1200, Ascent A2300, Ascent A2500, Ascent A3300, and Ascent A3500. Others were sold separately, as sets, or in bundles. The Vitamix logo is printed on the blending container.
Incidents/injuries: Vitamix has received 27 reports of lacerations, including 11 prior to the 2018 recall, that occurred when users’ hands came in contact with the blades.
Where sold: The recalled blenders were sold between April 2017 and May 2024 at Best Buy, Costco, Crate & Barrel, Macy’s, Target, Walmart, Williams Sonoma, and other specialty and independent stores nationwide, as well as at Vitamix.com, Amazon.com, and QVC.com. Prices ranged from $30 to $990 for the blender and blending containers when sold with other products.
Remedy: The Consumer Product Safety Commission urges all consumers, including those who participated in the 2018 recall, to immediately stop using the recalled components and contact Vitamix for a new repair kit consisting of a protective plastic shroud that attaches over the blade base and additional instructional labels. Consumers can cite the recall number: 24-276.
