Dorel Juvenile Group (Dorel) is recalling certain Maxi-Cosi Pria 70 Convertible child seats. When the seat is installed in the forward facing position and secured to the car using the lap belt without also using the top tether, the seat may not adequately protect the child from head injury in the event of a crash. As such, these child seats fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 213, "Child Restraint Systems."

CR's Take

A plush and padded seat with an additional insert for small babies called the TinyFit. We found that the TinyFit can hinder ease of use. The TinyFit adds difficulty to the seat due to additional requirements and locations for belt routing and MUST be used if your child is 18lbs or less. The no-rethread harness is nice but if you use the TinyFit you lose the benefit. Rear-facing installation is also hindered by the TinyFit. The samples we purchased came with an owners manual that is incorrectly collated. Our manual was very hard to read with the pages out of order.

All child seats sold in the United States are required to meet government safety standards, and Consumer Reports’ tests are not designed to test compliance with those standards.
