An attractively priced car or SUV that is less than reliable isn't good for your budget. Even if it's under warranty, you still have to spend valuable time taking it to and from the dealer for repairs. And when the warranty ends, paying for repairs is even worse.

So what are the most reliable new cars and SUVs you can buy for less than $30,000? To find out, we compiled a list of SUVs ranked by their predicted reliability rating, which is taken from the results of Consumer Reports' exclusive Annual Auto Surveys. The vehicles listed below are ranked in order of their reliability score. While all receive CR's top rating, we use their numerical score to two decimal places to determine their ranking order, 1 through 15.

To filter the list, we focused on the price paid for testing, because we buy cars that are popularly equipped. These vehicles have been relatively problem-free as reported by car owners in our survey, so they should keep running for a long time.

In addition to the reliability rating, each scorecard includes the vehicle's Overall Score, which encompasses a vehicle’s performance in our road tests; the latest results from the reliability and owner satisfaction sections of CR’s exclusive Annual Auto Surveys; the availability of forward collision warning (FCW), automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, and blind spot warning (BSW); and results from government and insurance-industry crash tests, if they're available.
