Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Simply put, this version of the A6 is a joy for both driver and passengers alike. Its potent supercharged V6 engine and slick eight-speed transmission deliver invigorating and effortless power. Available permanent Quattro all-wheel-drive assures traction and contributes to wintertime security. And yet, at 22 mpg, fuel economy is quite commendable. But that's just the beginning.

The A6 outperforms many of its peers because it is so multi-talented. It provides an uplifting driving experience thanks to its responsive steering and tied-down suspension. But it also rides smoothly, leaving the bumps and ruts of the road outside the solid, vault-like cabin. The interior is quiet, instilling a feeling of a safe-haven. Inside the A6 is sumptuous and accommodating, with super comfortable and supportive seats keeping you fresh and ache-free. The trunk is large and beautifully finished. Interior quality and ambiance are top notch, though it is more businesslike than glitzy.

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Normal routine brake wear

"Just the simple difference between dealer cost and that of a good mechanic. Dealer cost was 40% higher."

John L., NC (2013 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"Pads and rotors cost $2000 to replace on all four wheels, which is about three times what I expected."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)
Premature brake wear

"Brakes had to have full pads and rotors on all four corners replaced at 40,000 miles. This was a $2000 service and I felt that rotors should last a lot longer."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"I replaced pads and rotors twice in the same year after three trips through the Rocky Mountains."

Jack P., OH (2013 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

Engine oil leak from many different areas - dealer said we need to replace valve cover seal, vacuum pump gasket, pressure regulating valve gasket, upper and lower timing chain cover gaskets, and replace water pump.
