Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. The CTS delivers an inviting blend of comfort, quietness, and sporty driving performance. We bought the midtrim Luxury version equipped with a 321-hp, 3.6-liter V6. That should provide enough zip for most people, even though its 6.8-second 0-to-60 mph sprint time is actually a bit slower than the acceleration many competitors deliver.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2014 Cadillac CTS owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Display screen difficult to see

"Blind spot on the screen probably due to the angle of the screen"

Anonymous, WA (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 3.6-L V6)
Display screen freezes up

"Screen images become dark, cloudy and unviewable."

Lyssa W., CA (2014 Cadillac CTS None 6.2-L V8 supercharged)

"CUE needed to be replaced. Screen was unresponsive to touch input."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"couldn't control audio features"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"The CUE system screen delaminated and the system that includes heating, navigation, audio, and other functions became inoperable. This was fixed fairly promptly with the car being left over night at the dealer, with the dealer providing a loaner while this was fixed under warranty."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"Screen died just after warranty expired. Not really frozen but does not respond to touch"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Touch screen display would no longer operate, and Cadillac gave me a new one for the cost of installation"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The CUE screen had issues freezing up. The dealership replaced the CUE screen under warranty"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"Touchscreen doesn't respond to touch in certain areas."

Anonymous, (2014 Cadillac CTS Unsure Unsure)

"Not really a freeze up. Lost functions in several areas. Cadillac replaced it under warranty"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"The display screen pixels delaminated causing the CUE system to be inoperable and freezing the screen. This was fixed under warranty"

Philip S., CA (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 3.6-L V6)
Display screen goes blank

"The CUE system locked up and would not operate. CAdillac changed it under warranty"

Anonymous, LA (2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport 3.6-L V6 turbo)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"I can not use Android Auto on the screen. I also have to look at my phone to change artists or songs. The CUE is only able to play one artist and to change you have to look away from the road. This is not able to update software over time. Only Apple products are fully integrated. CUE is slow, the touch screen is terrible, frustrating to use. The voice commands never understand what you say or ask. It has to be the worst system I have ever seen or used. I would think hard before I bought another Cadillac after this terrible experience. GM has no business putting this piece of garbage in any car let alone the top of the line. They should replace mine with one that works the way you expect when paying this kind of money. As I said, this is a pile of garbage. Cheap junk that doesnt belong in a Cadillac. If I knew this I would not have bought the car. The dealer had no answers and when I called Cadillac they didnt give a damn either. Next car I buy will probably not be GM or American."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Hardware replacement

"Cue touch screen quit working so could not use any functions"

Anonymous, IA (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"The navigation system is locked up on the last entry for an address, and requires a whole new CUE system to fix."

Paul H., FL (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"turn by turn system failed continuely"

Robert B., ME (2014 Cadillac CTS CTS-V 3.6-L V6 turbo)

"This problem was resolved with the replacement unit that Cadillac provided for installation cost"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Radio

"unable to use controls to change stations"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac CTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"The problem is not exactly the radio, it has more to do with the antenna for the XM satellite. It has been replaced once and worked better for a short time, but soon after a rain it began cutting out again"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport 3.6-L V6 turbo)
Routine software updates

"Doesn't work"

Anonymous, CO (2014 Cadillac CTS CTS-V 3.6-L V6)
