Dodge Dart Recalled Again for Roll-Away Risk

Nearly 300,000 of these sedans will need another fix as soon as it becomes available

Dodge is recalling nearly 300,000 Dart sedans from the 2013 through 2016 model years because of a defect that could cause them to roll away even when drivers think they’ve shifted into Park.

    More on Car Recalls

The problem is caused by a faulty shifter cable that may detach from the transmission. These vehicles were already recalled in 2019, but the automaker began a new investigation after further complaints from owners whose cars wouldn’t shift into Park after that recall fix.

Owners who had their cars fixed in 2019 will need to bring them back to the dealership for another free repair. However, Dodge is still working on a fix for this issue. As a result, owners will receive two letters: one in November to let them know their car is going to be recalled, and another when a fix is available. In the meantime, drivers of the affected vehicles should set the parking brake before exiting the vehicle.

In documents provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Dodge says that it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this issue.

The problem: A shifter cable may detach. If this happens, drivers could think they’ve put the vehicle in Park when it is not, and the vehicle could roll away and cause a crash and/or injury.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may call Stellantis, Dodge’s parent company, at 800-853-1403.
