Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and 2020-2022 Ford Escape SUVs equipped with 1.5-liter four-cylinder engines due to concerns that a fuel injector may crack and leak fuel inside the engine compartment. Such a leak could lead to fuel traveling to a hot surface in the exhaust and turbo systems, risking fire.

If the vehicle experiences this problem, the driver may notice a fuel odor outside and inside the vehicle. Should the fuel catch on fire, smoke or flames may be seen coming from the engine compartment or underbody, and instrument panel warning lights may be illuminated.

The recall includes 694,271 SUVs. This recall expands and replaces previous recall numbers 22V859, 24V187, and 25V165.

Once the new final remedy is available, vehicles previously remedied under 22V859, 24V187, and 25V165 will need to have it performed.

Ford has identified eight related fires, but the automaker is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this condition.

Owners will be notified by letter in mid-August, and a follow-up letter will be sent once a fix is available.
