General Motors Cars, SUVs, and Trucks Recalled Due to Daytime Running Light Concerns

The DRLs may not turn off, as expected, when headlights are used

General Motors is recalling more than 740,000 sedans, SUVs, and trucks because their daytime running lights may not turn off when headlights are in use. Consequently, those vehicles from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

The concern is that having both the DRLs and headlights on would increase glare, risking a crash.

The correction is a software update, performed either at a GM dealership or over the air.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Jan. 23, 2023.

    The Details

    Vehicles recalled:
    2021-2023 Buick Envision
    2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5
2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV
2022-2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe
2022-2023 GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL

The problem: Daytime running lights may not deactivate when headlights are turned on.
The fix: The body control module software will be updated by a dealership, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge.
How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact GMC customer service at 888-988-7267, Chevrolet customer service at 800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 800-458-8006.
NHTSA campaign number: 22V903000. This recall expands previous recall number 22V-827. GM’s number for this recall is N222386380.

Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.

If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have any open recalls. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly to see whether your vehicle has had a recall issued.
