Hyundai Recalls the Santa Cruz and Tucson Due to Brake Concerns

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Santa Cruz pickups, and Tucson, Tucson Hybrid, and Tucson Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) SUVs over braking concerns. Software in the front cameras may cause the forward collision avoidance system to activate prematurely and unexpectedly apply the brakes.

As of late April 2026, the automaker received 376 reports related to the forward collision avoidance system, aka automatic emergency braking. Among those reports were four crashes where a Hyundai vehicle was struck in a rear-end collision and four injuries. 

Owners will be notified of this recall in mid-July and instructed to visit their local Hyundai dealership to have their software updated. 

Hyundai Braking Recall Details

Vehicles recalled: 2025-2026 Santa Cruz pickups, and Tucson, Tucson Hybrid, and Tucson Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) SUVs

The problem: Software in the front cameras may cause the forward collision avoidance system to activate prematurely and unexpectedly apply the brakes.

The fix: Dealerships will update the front camera software, free of charge.
