Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 116,000 GLE and GLS SUVs from the 2020 through 2024 model years because an electrical issue could start a fire under the passenger seat.

The problem has to do with a loose cable connection.

According to documents the automaker submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there have been no fires, injuries, or crashes related to this issue, but there have been 31 reports of battery-related warning lights.

Mercedes-Benz dealerships will inspect and tighten the connection. As with all recall repairs, this fix will be free of charge.

    Mercedes-Benz Recall Details

    Vehicles Recalled
    • 2023-2024 GLE 350 SUVs
    • 2020-2024 GLE 450 SUVs
    • 2020-2023 GLS 580 and GLE 580 SUVs
    • 2019-2023 GLS 450 SUVs

The problem: Due to an error during the manufacturing process, a 48-volt ground connection under the passenger seat may not be adequately secured, which could cause the ground connection to overheat and potentially cause a fire.

The fix: Mercedes dealerships will inspect and, if necessary, tighten the connections, free of charge.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz at 800-367-6372.

    NHTSA campaign number: 24V207

Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.

If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have any open recalls. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly to see whether your vehicle has had a recall issued.
