More Toyota and Lexus Vehicles Recalled for Debris in Engine

Toyota Tundra pickups and Lexus GX and LX SUVs are included in this recall

Toyota is expanding its recall of 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra pickup trucks, 2022-2024 Lexus LX SUVs, and 2024 Lexus GX SUVs because their engine could be contaminated with debris after an error in the manufacturing process. This contamination could cause engines to suddenly stall while driving, which could lead to a crash.

    MORE ON car RECALLS

This is the second recall related to debris contamination in the V35A twin-turbocharged V6 engine that powers the affected vehicles. Under the initial recall, Toyota and Lexus replaced faulty engines at no charge. For this latest batch of recalled vehicles, the automaker says a fix is still under development and that owners will be notified as soon as it is available.

“Toyota is currently evaluating whether there are other ways to remedy the customer vehicle and provide it to customers more quickly,” a Toyota spokesperson told CR. “There is an incredibly small batch of vehicles previously recalled and repaired that are being recalled under this latest campaign.”

The automaker says that if drivers experience an engine that knocks, runs roughly, or stalls, they should stop driving when it is safe to do so and contact a Toyota or Lexus dealer for assistance.

Toyota and Lexus Engine Debris Recall Details

    Vehicles Recalled
    • Lexus GX SUVs manufactured between May 31, 2023 and April 10, 2024
    • Lexus LX SUVs manufactured between Feb. 26, 2022 and April 2, 2024
    • Toyota Tundra pickup trucks manufactured between Nov. 22, 2021 and Feb. 14, 2024

The problem: At the factory, machining debris from the manufacturing process may not have been properly cleared from the engine. This debris may adhere to engine bearings and, over time, lead to failure.

The fix: Toyota will alert owners by mail as soon as a fix is available.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Toyota at 800-331-4331. Toyota’s own numbers for this recall are 25TB14 and 25TA14.

NHTSA campaign number: 25V767. Lexus’ own numbers for this recall are 25LB07 and 25LA07. The original NHTSA recall number was 24V381.
