Nissan Murano Recalled Due to Potential Steering Problems
A production problem creates the risk that key components may separate
Nissan is recalling certain 2020 Murano SUVs due to concerns about potentially defective suspension parts that could affect the steering. The problem has been traced to right and left transverse links that may not have been constructed properly.
In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documentation, Nissan explains, “In rare cases, the ball joint may separate from the transverse link, which may result in loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.”
The problem was initially flagged by the supplier. Nissan is not aware of any warranty claims, accidents, or injuries related to the subject condition. The company advises that no other Nissan or Infiniti vehicles use the suspect components.
Nissan will notify owners of this recall in late April 2021.
The Details
Vehicles recalled: Approximately 15,223 2020 Nissan Murano SUVs built from July 28, 2020, to Sept. 16, 2020.
The problem: A batch of right and left transverse links that were not constructed properly. This may allow a ball joint to separate from a link, leading to a loss of steering.
The fix: Dealerships will inspect the vehicle, looking to see whether parts from the suspected group are installed. If so, the technician will replace the affected transverse links and perform an alignment.
