Driving Experience
Includes acceleration and handling
What Owners Say
"Powerful and fun acceleration, limited only by the tires. So easy to "point and shoot" in traffic. I can merge and pass with high confidence."
Eric T., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"replaced the tires"
Patrick C., WI (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Very good acceleration. I especially like the one-pedal driving that allows me to use the accelerator to slow and stop without moving my foot to the brake."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"quick and smooth acceleration, fun to drive, love one-pedal driving since I rarely have to use friction brakes, corners well"
Kim D., UT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"I have owned many cars in my life and the Chevy volt drives better than all of them. Great acceleration, terrific handling.a joy to drive."
Anonymous, PA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Immediate quiet response to the accelerator and moves quickly and easily through traffic."
Anonymous, MD (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Ride and acceleration are very good. The acceleration makes his car Stand out."
Ron M., MN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Excellent acceleration, good handling around corners."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Great acceleration. Great range. Good driving experience."
Anonymous, VA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Accelerates very quickly, and the one pedal driving is very fun to use, plus it saves my brakes and gives me a longer range with the regenerative braking."
Lance M., FL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Quick, stable, excellent visibility and power mode is effective."
Glen S., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Great acceleration and handling."
David E., CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The instant torque from the electric powertrain is intoxicating. Despite the narrow tires handling is quite nimble."
Steve W., OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"I am very surprised by the acceleration: the Chevrolet Bolt is no slouch; and turning radius of the Chevrolet Bolt in tight spots. There is plenty of room inside the cabin. Windows placed differently allow one to see better--a big safety feature. And of course, it is very quiet inside the cabin."
Walter R., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The driving experience with respect to acceleration and handling is EXCELLENT, beyond expectations. The car responds very quickly and easily. It handles faster and better than almost every ICE (internal combustion engine) car on the road."
Mike M., MN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration is excellent and steering wheel braking is very useful on hills. Not being able to turn on camera view when traveling at speeds over 5mph is sometimes annoying."
D T., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"No hesitation, no engine roar, quick acceleration, precise handling."
G K., NC (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Excellent acceleration & handling & visibility with the various sensors."
Robert H., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"It is a surprisingly wonderful driving car. It accelerates very quickly and is extremely responsive. The brakes take some getting used to and could be a bit more responsive. All in all, we are extremely pleased with the driving experience."
Anonymous, CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Great handling; excellent acceleration"
Michael W., CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Excellent acceleration."
Anonymous, VA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"It's not exactly a sports car, but it accelerates fast enough to do anything you would want to do, as well as slams you back into your seat hard enough to just barely be uncomfortable if you're flooring it, so you really don't want it faster. It handles great as it's CG is low to the ground due to the batteries. This provides great cornering and amazing control and you never feel you're going to lose grip on the road or control of the vehicle."
David B., DE (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration and handling are better than many sports cars I’ve owned."
Anonymous, NM (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"One pedal driving in "L" is the best part of the Bolt. And the fact that it is an electric car. I will never buy a gasoline or diesel powered vehicle again, never!"
Dana H., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Very quick acceleration and great driving experience"
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"SUPER acceleration due to instant torque with electric motors, no heat comes off the car in the summer (can't even describe what a difference THAT makes), and the battery under the floor provides a low center of gravity for decent handling. The stock tires are terrible: no traction whatsoever, but they are self-sealing and low rolling resistance, so replacing them with a better tire is a challenge I have not solved yet. Any better handling tire might not be self-sealing or run-flat, and may adversely impact range."
David M., NJ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Drove all winter in Minnesota weather. Traction was excellent though snow drifts, for a small car. Ride is comparable to a larger car. 240 miles per charge range in summer is excellent (winter range drops by about a third. Even sub-zero Fahrenheit still yielded around 165 mile range). The one weakness is that, unlike Tesla’s Supercharger network, the Bolt battery depends on private charging companies while traveling intercity. Because of the battery range, only a “fast charger‿ is practical (unless one wishes to shop at Goodwill for 2 - 3 hours). Fast chargers can be few and far between in the Midwest."
David G., MN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Low center of gravity and crisp acceleration"
Anonymous, WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Nothing beats the acceleration in an EV. It ranges from whisper quiet smoothness to tire squealing violence depending on your mood. The immediacy of the response is something not even a German sports car can muster."
Anonymous, ON (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Very quick around town & quite good on the interstate. Overall, very fun to drive & stable, but a bit bumpy on cobblestones & bad local roads."
Stephen W., KY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Fast acceleration that nobody really needs, but it IS fun to squeal tires at 20 mph by flooring it. It handles like it's riding on rails and is fast reacting in it's steering response."
Dave M., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"acceleration is awesome"
Joseph J., CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Very quick acceleration, very sporty and quiet."
Patrick C., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Excellent handling and responsivenes."
Raymond F., NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"unexpected acceleration. a safety concern."
Anonymous, IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Adaptive cruise control is my favorite feature"
Philip C., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The acceleration and handling of the Bolt exceed my expectations, making the car a pleasure to drive. Only handling problem is some torque-steer."
Anonymous, NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration and handling is good. I primarily use one-pedal driving and I think that it's great!"
Mary P., AZ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"I love the handling and the responsiveness of the 2017 Bolt LT. I have some issue with the front air bag columns,..they are too wide and block some vision."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The Bolt handles very Wells and accelerates more quickly than most cars in this category."
Gregoire B., QC (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"great acceleration and surprisingly good handling"
Anonymous, OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"This is a fun car to drive! The acceleration (torque) is so much fun and it handles very well with the batteries located low to the ground. The best part though is one pedal driving, which makes traffic a breeze. Not to mention you get access to the HOV lane in Arizona."
David M., AZ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"I enjoy the acceleration and ride, it is fun to drive!"
Richard S., NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The bird’s eye view is awesome! I will never buy a car without the blind spot warning system, or the front collision warning system again."
Ed B., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Instantaneous acceleration is very handy in traffic, to the point that I wish it had 2 motors, making it AWD for better acceleration and even better regeneration during strong stops. I wish someone would make an EV minivan, the size of our Mazda MPV"
Katherine L., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"This car has AMAZING acceleration and handling. It is very fun to drive and responds like an expensive sports car."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The Bolt has sports car-like acceleration and handling. It has cruise control, but I wish it was adaptive. It is equipped with emergency autonomous braking."
Francis K., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The acceleration is (well, it could be depending on who is driving) neck-snapping. One of the great things about an EV is how exactly it holds its speed, especially on downhills, when cruise control is engaged. It doesn't, like gas-powered cars we've had, speed up on downhills. Also, going along with the features of an EV, is single pedal operation. Just taking my foot off (or even just easing off) the accelerator causes the car to slow down. This, at least for me, relieves the fatigue of moving my foot back and forth from the accelerator to the brake pedal. And, as I said, the handling, specifically pertaining to steering, is pretty tight. All in all it's a delight to drive. Even my wife, the non-gear-head and non-techie, says so. (Therefore it must be so. No?)"
Les P., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration is instantaneous and powerful. No fear to merge or pass. Handling is acceptable."
Anonymous, CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Electric drive unit is excellent. Acceleration is excellent. One pedal driving!"
Anonymous, CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Responsive and very good acceleration and handling."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"It has plenty of acceleration and handling is great."
Anonymous, KS (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"I really enjoy its peppyness. It accelerates quickly. It has a tighter turning radius than my previous vehicle."
Anne G., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"I already commented on this. Acceleration is excellent. The only downside is the very stiff ride and the not comfortable seats. Old people like these cars. Please give us some lumbar support."
Anonymous, WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration is fantastic, especially in sport mode, though I definitely feel the torque steer when accelerating hard. Handling is pretty good given the weight of the vehicle, though suspension could be improved. Overall, very fun to drive."
Jerry R., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Nice to operate. Quiet. Easy to control and lots of power..."
Garth S., MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"I love driving in Low mode, which allows me to drive with just the accelerator pedal. As soon as I take my foot off the accelerator, the car slows down. It provides a more controlled driving experience."
Anonymous, ME (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration is excellent! Brakes are good but very seldom use them as I do ALL my driving in LO mode & have adapted to the regen braking. I would put on grippier tires but don't want to dip into the battery range. I use Nokian tires summer & winter."
John G., ON (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The instant torque means great low speed acceleration and still plenty of acceleration at highway speeds. Handling is much better than expected due to the low center of gravity. The low rolling resistance tires extend range but are the limiting factor in handling. Very quiet to drive. Very solid build."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Great acceleration and regenerative braking."
Anonymous, MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The Bolt of the fastest and smoothest car I’ve ever owned. While it’s not go cart like it handles very well with a reasonably smooth ride. I love being able to zip by people on the interstate with no hesitation from the drive system. I also really enjoy the near one pedal driving in traffic."
Brian P., MN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Really fast acceleration"
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration is more than satisfactory and the car hugs the road on turns."
Anonymous, OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Great acceleration. Direct drive transmission and electric motor brings instant acceleration. Handling is superb."
James C., OK (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"very zippy acceleration and handling. Never embarrassed at a traffic light. Zero-to-35 is GREAT and 55 to 80 is good enough. Braking via decelearation or via extra paddle slow-down also works well. Almost never use my brakes."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"This little car can go. It moves so FAST down the highway. Turns are solid with the Bolt's weight low and the electric motor just works great. Love it."
Clinton D., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Quick acceleration, flat cornering, quietness."
Bill M., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The acceleration is noticeably brisk and smooth. Off the line car response is immediate, smooth, and full power. I didn’t realize it until I started driving the Bolt, but EV acceleration is immediately “on‿ and uniform without drop off. With a conventional car it takes time to get full power to accelerate from a full stop. I therefore can “beat‿ most cars including sports cars off the line if I were so inclined. In practice the EV drive acceleration makes me feel safe because I have maneuverability and speed wherever I need to call on it. In sum...I generally hate cars. I view them as a necessary convenience. The Bolt by contrast is guiltless fun. I really enjoy driving this car on a daily basis...and this is after 10 months of ownership."
Andrew G., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Quick to respond, unlike modern gasoline cars. And easy single paddle driving, it's best feature."
Ronald E., WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"I didn't know what topic to put this under. It boggles the mind that this car does not have, even optionally available, adaptive cruise control even though it has all of the needed sensors. All it would take is a software change."
Frank W., AR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"VERY poor handling in rain or windy conditions. It hydroplanes at fairly low speeds of 50 mph or so. Hitting a round white lane marker on a curve on dry pavement at 65 mph can cause a brief loss of control. I would sell this car immediately if I lived in a state with snow or a lot of rain"
Stephanie A., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"It accelerates like a little rocket and has excellent passing power. And all this with complete silence! The ride is on the firm side."
Mike B., ON (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration, performance and, handling are outstanding."
Anonymous, NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration is spectacular and it handles like a sports car, no leaning when making turns, it's like it's glued to the road"
Anonymous, MI (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Impressive acceleration. Responsive handling. Particularly like the way the two camera views help in parking and maneuvering in close quarters."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Responsive and zippy. I was afraid that as an all electric car it would be sluggish. It has a Sport mode which I have not felt the need to use."
Bala R., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The acceleration on this car is superb; it is like driving a rocket. Overall, the Chevy Bolt is the best car I've ever driven, hands down. I would take it over any gasoline vehicle, including BMW and Mercedes."
Zebadiah K., MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Excellent acceleration. Handles very well. Quiet. Smooth."
Allan G., FL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Super quiet and great acceleration"
Kathy M., MO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Excellent acceleration and I love one peddle driving"
Anonymous, IA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"quick acceleration"
Jason O., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Great, much better than a gas car. I feel that electric vehicles are much smoother and quicker to respond, which puts them in a different class. I wish reviews about electric cars would mention that you get better engine/motor performance than gas; it's not just about the type of fuel."
Anonymous, MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"It has a choppy ride but all other areas are great."
Anonymous, AZ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"It is zippy! I have no worries merging into traffic.. I really enjoy driving it!"
Margaret C., TX (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The Bolt always has plenty of acceleration for any task."
Greg E., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The acceleration is Outstanding &easy to control"
Anonymous, FL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration is excellent. It provides means to move fast very well. I think this, overall, is good, however, it occurs to me that, knowing one has the ability to move quickly might actually encourage some drivers to be more reckless. I like most the one-pedal driving feature. It links breaking to letting up on the accelerator. Time is not lost moving one's foot to the break pedal and it provides great control over speed and acceleration. For a 5-10 mile trip I only need the brake pedal a couple of times. Also, GM claims, the efficiency is highest when driving under one-pedal control. What I don't like is the dashboard controls that involve pushing a marker on the electronic monitor portion. Because you cannot feel a knob, you have to look to, for example, change the exhaust fan speed. This requires taking your eyes off the road for too long a time. They have done a great job making sure one can control the radio without looking, but I change fan speed and internal temperature much more than I change radio settings."
Robert M., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"It is a really fun car to drive!"
Anonymous, CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Car handles incredible well (better than an Audi A4)"
Jay B., VT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Immediate acceleration is exhilarating. One pedal driving is the future. Love knowing the brakes will probably not be a maintenance item in the future due to this feature."
Richard N., NJ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Very good handling - hugs curves and accelerates so quickly that I have to back off much more quickly than i anticipate."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Excellent acceleration and handling. Consistently more than 250 miles in city driving. No real network of quick DC chargers like tesla for long distance driving"
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration: The instant torque is exhilerating and the lack of engine noise adds to the experience. It is much more enjoyable than any internal combustion engined car I have owned. Handling: is very quick and controllable with little body roll."
Mark G., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"1. When driving in 1 pedal mode, I'd like to know my brake lights come on when I decelerate. 2. The car is practically silent. When driving in parking lots where there are pedestrians, I'd like a little courtesy horn or bell to let them know I'm behind them without using the horn and scaring them to death. 3. The place where the car plugs in could use a courtesy light."
Casey K., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Great acceleration from a standing stop. Inspires confidence when entering interstate high speed traffic."
David W., DE (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"An electric motor drive has maximum torque at 0 rpm. Acceleration is a real head snapper. Overall the Bolt is a very well designed vehicle and a precursor for the future of vehicle design."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"very quick and nimble. a pleasure to drive. does not handle speed bumps well, very harsh."
Anonymous, OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Instantaneous acceleration much faster than the volt I don’t believe it handles quite as well as the volt But still quite respective Regenerative braking is very robust I am able to recapture up to 50% of energy"
Frank B., CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"quiet operation is so pleasing. Acceleration is quite powerful; no lags."
Nathan P., IN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Incredible acceleration that feels more like a sports car."
Anonymous, NJ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Handling is perfect for our hilly environment. We find L the easiest to use setting and the regenerative braking is energy efficient. The car is very responsive and powerful."
Edward O., BC (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Electric motors deliver peak torque at stall, so most modern EVs have outstanding acceleration - the Bolt is particularly strong. The heavy battery under the chassis makes for a low center of gravity, so the handling is quite sporty."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The handling and acceleration are both excellent for a car in this price range. Suspension compliance feels quite tight, though it can be jolting on harsh surfaces. Due to the cars low center of gravity it tracks extremely well in wind and cornering. Acceleration - well, it's great. What you would expect from a electric drive."
James S., FL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Fun to drive. Good acceleration. I love the one-pedal driving. You rarely need to use the brake"
Alan B., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The Bolt has made me a better driver. Even acceleration and breaking add to regenerative charging. I add mileage during my 20 mile trip to work."
R A., CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"This car goes! Snappy acceleration from a standstill and cruising at highway speeds, and very nice handling through curves."
Joseph-Juanita C., VT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Love the instantaneous torque."
Joel M., BC (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Accelerates very well. Corners surprisingly well"
Anonymous, IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"It has excellent acceleration from the electric drive train but only mediocre handling due to low-grip tires and an econo-car suspension."
Adam H., VA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Car is most responsive in acceleration due to instant power of electric motor. Handling is good also and compares with the MINI Coopers I have owned."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Great acceleration!"
John W., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Electric cars drive smoothly and have lots of torque available at 0 RPM. All the mechanical harshness, hum, vibration of internal-combustion-cars simply isn’t there. I can’t see going back to a gasoline-powered car ever again."
Adam C., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"excellent acceleration and handling"
Anonymous, WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Accelerates well. Ride so so on a rough road. Seats so so."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The bolt has lots of power"
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Easy handling and responsive driving. The ride is comfortable even on long (3+ hours) drives. I love the power and response when I need to pass other vehicles, even going up steep hills."
P P., OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Crazy fast for a small car. Unexpectedly smooth."
Dave M., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"ACCELERATION!!"
John W., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Instant addictive and quiet acceleration with confidence inspiring handling. Wish traction control would intervene a little quicker since it is easy to chirp the front tires. Another important thing about the Bolt is single pedal driving in Low gear and regeneration on demand button on steering wheel. In day to day driving, I only use the brakes for unforeseen or emergency situations. Otherwise, the pace of progress is completely controlled electrically, using regeneration to the max, which help..."
Katherine L., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The acceleration is off the hook - 0 to 60 in nothing flat, you hardly notice how fast you're going. Keeps us confident about being able to merge onto the highway quickly."
Gretchen G., PA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The handling, acceleration, visibility and cabin room are exceptionally good in this car! We are delighted."
Kathleen M., NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"plenty of power handles well very fun to drive"
Edmund L., MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration is much stronger than you would expect for a compact electric SUV. Handling is also very good for normal street driving, though should not be confused with a true sports car."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Very quick. 0 - 60 in about 6.5 seconds. Instant acceleration. You can change lanes very quickly. Because of the battery pack, the car is quite heavy and holds the road very well. Sure handling."
Gary C., NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Fantastic acceleration, extremely quiet, eagle eye view parking assist really helpful. Lots of interior room too."
Mike B., ON (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The most fun I've had driving in a long time. Instant acceleration with pint point steering."
Gary M., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Electric acceleration is a marvel of torque converted to purpose and serenity. The Bolt can make those front wheels spin, so some adjustment is required! Handling ... is so-so. It doesn't feel nearly as well balanced as our e-Golf, and seems to suffer, just a bit, from understeer (noticeable only on curvy mountain roads at highway speeds)."
Eliot M., OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The Bolt is the fasted car I've ever owned. It seems to have endless power if called upon."
Brian P., MN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Acceleration is very rapid, handles well and is surprisingly fun to drive"
Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Quick, short turning radius,"
Suzanne G., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"terrific acceleration and handling. It is very fun to drive."
Anonymous, MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"Very fast acceleration, it responds well with tight steering. It is fun to drive."
Charles P., MI (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"0-60 in 6-7 seconds, steers very well"
Joseph J., CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"The Bolt is a great city car—it zips around with ease. It's also good on the highway, easily keeping up with traffic."
Francis K., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)"It accelerates nicely. I don't test the handling. Handles well in normal driving."
David J., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)
"Very smooth."
Paul M., MI (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)
