Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2008 Chevrolet Corvette owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Electric System

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

What Owners Say

Headlights

"Apparently it's a known issue by GM. The headlight cover gets a pitting look on the inside, supposedly caused by heat and water. Very unsightly and expensive to replace"

Anonymous, NV (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

"GM Program # N140203 Corvette Low-Beam Head Lamp Inoperative"

John B., CA (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

"The is a factory recall I need to follow up on"

Anonymous, CT (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

"Required replacement of the HID power pack. Not covered by extended GMPP Warranty"

Anonymous, CA (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

"Both low headlight beams stop working after driving with them one. Park the car, shut off the engine and leave it sitting for 30 minutes. Headlights will not go back on until car has cooled down for 2 to 3 hours. Likely the fuse box. GM had a recall on 2005 to 2007 Corvettes, but not 2008 to 2013 models."

Larson K., HI (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)
Horn

"Horn stopped working. Replaced at dealership"

Anonymous, OK (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)
Keyless entry

"Replaced entry door handle pads and driver door latch"

Anonymous, AR (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

"keyless entry requires fully charged battery to operate correctly. As voltage decreases FOB not found messages occur, followed by keyless entry failing completely locking you completely out of car. Entry is via emergency entry method through the trunk. It is only rectified by recharging battery to max. Problem is amplified during warm weather when running lights and A/C. Alternator does recharge battery sufficiently to offset use. Supposedly a few VIN numbers earlier required replacement of remote entry system controller, but same symptoms are not covered a few VIN numbers later."

Gerald L., NV (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)
Tire pressure monitor

"TPM will occasionally show no air pressure when there is sufficient air pressure in the tire"

Anonymous, FL (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)
Wiper motor or washer

"WIper motor control in steering column malfunctioned. Took to dealership to replace some steering column components"

Anonymous, OK (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

What Owners Say

Gear selector or linkage

"Shift cable broke which disabled the vehicle. GM used cheap cables"

David T., FL (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

"Gear selector would not move from "park". Having valet parking became a problem"

Denver I., CA (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

"Apparently the solenoid that put the transmission in park needed replacement."

Anonymous, TX (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

"Automatic transmission linkage broke. Couldn't shift gears. Linkage replaced."

William J., NC (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

"The gear selector is locked in PARK at random times. This is due to a defective/substandard quality electric part, a solenoid fails to activate at plastic ratchet that releases/unlocks the gear selector so that the car remains locked in PARK until the solenoid activates and releases/unlocks the gear selector so the vehicle can be driven. This was also explained in my description of the electric solenoid problem due to GM using substandard quality electric parts, that NHTSA has so far failed to issue a recall for replacement of defective shifter selector release mechanism that will fail when the defective solenoid fails/delays to activate the gear selector release ratchet."

Anonymous, VA (2008 Chevrolet Corvette 6.2-L V8)
Hydraulics (clutch master or slave cylinder)

"Even though chevy does not ask for fluid change in clutch system at any interval; the fluid needs to be changed regularly of the clutch will fail and slave and master cylinders will need to be replaced and chevy refuses to pay"

Anonymous, CT (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

"Clutch frooze up. Had to have master cylinder R//R"

Anonymous, TX (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 7.0-L V8)
Transmission sensor or solenoid

"rough shifting and noise, but transmission did not require overhaul, just change of solenoid."

Anonymous, FL (2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base 6.2-L V8)

"The A6 shifter can stick in PARK at random times making it impossible to move the vehicle. A (GM installed substandard quality electric part?) solenoid that releases the Gear Selector out of PARK (P) failed, or was sticking/stuck for a few minutes after starting the engine. As a result, the plastic ratchet that keeps the shifter locked in the PARK position would not release the shifter until the solenoid activates. I reported this safety hazard to the federal/NHTSA safety defects reporting system, but no recall/s were ever issued for this defect, that has been experienced by many other owners related on the Corvette internet forums."

Anonymous, VA (2008 Chevrolet Corvette 6.2-L V8)
