"Oil cooler began to leak. Smell detected from oil dripping on the exhaust system. Confirmed by CHEVROLET dealer and oil drips on garage floor. No replacement spare was available in the GM system. Replacement came from a wreck."

"Apparently there is a longstanding issue with this transmission and several GM technical bulletins about it. The "cheap" fix is a 3 x flush of the transmission with synthetic transmission fluid. You would think this would be inexpensive but with labor and fluid it cost over $2500 to fix this known transmission problem. If this does not work or the problem reoccurs then the next step is to replace the torque converter."

"The first GM dealer put in extra 3 extra litres of motor oil when required was only 6.6 litres. This caused thick black smoke coming out of rear exhaust. A second GM dealer trying to correct the problem by changing motor oil, may have used the old oil filter, because it kept leaking until the car was taken to a third GM dealer. The third GM dealer only said the oil filter failed causing a leak. In my 45 years of driving never heard of a failed oil filter."
