Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“The car handles well and has a lot of power. My only complaint is that sometimes it hesitates when you try to accelerate and then it suddenly takes off like a rocket. I don't know if it's the transmission or the electronics that controls the transmission. It is annoying.”

MICHAE B., GA (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Acceleration is hesitant.”

Anonymous, TX (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“I wish I had the larger engine for more "get up and go"”

BILLY W., MS (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Has the performance package - very impressive acceleration but hard on fuel consumption”

Anonymous, ON (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“hybrid system and transmission fight each other, resulting in transmission being in too high a gear to pull hills smoothly. Very annoying.”

Anonymous, NY (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Easy to navigate especially on long trips.”

Anonymous, FL (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“not fussy on seats”

Anonymous, ON (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“seats are uncomfortable for long periods of travel. Always seems to be noise in the front end..squeaks..rattles..”

Anonymous, NY (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“It's a great car and we love it except as we age the car, being so low, is difficult to enter and especially getting out of. Our Equinox is just the right height for entry and exit.”

Anonymous, FL (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“All good. Only wish it had passenger seat controls.”

ROBERT L., ON (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Passenger seat heater quit working.”

STEVEN B., MN (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“I'm a tall guy and fit better in this car than most of my previous cars.”

JOHN D., FL (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“I am 5 ft 7 in tall. To be comfortable in the driving position my seat must be adjusted to a certain "spot". Bearing all this in mind, I find it difficult to get in and out of the vehicle. Others, who have driven my vehicle, have made the same comments. Taller people have an easier time getting in and out.”

Anonymous, MB (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The vehicle sits low to the ground, add this to the problems getting into and out of the car because of door design, it's hard for my wife and I to use as we get older.”

Anonymous, SK (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Seating position is very sitting in a bucket. Must lift yourself to get out of vehicle”

MICHAEL S., WV (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Attractive care, comfortable, but sits too low to the ground making visibility (looking left and especially right) difficult. Fairly quiet.”

Anonymous, MI (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Although normal for a small car, seating is somewhat cramped; and limited options to place items such as handbag.”

Anonymous, VA (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“The car was great, until the transmission failed-car would not move, requiring a whole new unit! Then, the steering rack went out. GM and the dealer helped with both items, and we are grateful, but when major items like this fail on a well maintained car, it makes you feel they used substandard parts.”

ERIC P., IL (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Wanted to buy American. When new consumer reports rated new 2009 Malibu excellent we test drove and bought car. 7 years later and car has 56K miles, suspension is shot, rattles, radio knob decals falling off, numerous recalls etc. Now rated cars to avoid. This is my last GM car!”

Anonymous, PA (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The resale value has been weak. The car has been reasonably reliable but some remove and replace items, specifically the headlights, is excessively time consuming and expensive.”

MICHAEL A., AZ (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The price was $7,000 less than competitive vehicles because GM was offering so many rebates at the time. It now has 160,000 miles and has only had one minor mechanical repair that cost less than $50.”

Anonymous, OR (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“I like the styling and the car profile. It was a big, very positive redesign for this model Chervrolet.”

MARK F., OH (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Bought the base model for a lot less (~3k) than any equivalent in its class”

Anonymous, CA (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Good value for money. Has been very dependable.”

ROBERT L., ON (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

MICHAE B., GA (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Poor rear visibility”

LOUIS D., SC (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“LTZ model - leather interior type and style before others”

Anonymous, ON (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)

“It is difficult to see out the back window of this car when backing up. This is the major factor that I am dissatisfied with this car.”

ELIZABETH N., NJ (2009 Chevrolet Malibu)
