The four-cylinder Malibu was updated with a six-speed automatic transmission that improves fuel economy and throttle response for this model year. Otherwise, Malibu remains well rounded overall. The car handles well and has a competent powertrain, along with a very quiet, spacious and well-trimmed cabin.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“Fine to drive, easy handling, good acceleration at speed (avoidance mostly).”

Anonymous, MI (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Harsh and noise ride”

GERALD G., MI (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The 2.4 litre 4 cylinder motor is smooth but under-powered. The handling is good for a larger sedan.”

JAMES W., IL (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“I love the option of shifting to manual drive when I'm driving on curvey roads through the mountains. When using that option I can accelerate quicker and have more control decelerating while sparing the brakes.”

CATHY M., CA (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Generally pretty good”

Anonymous, ON (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Ride is somewhat rough, although the roughness does not transmit to the steering wheel.”

Anonymous, NY (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Sometimes car hesitates when accelerating or merging into traffic which on a few occasions has almost caused an accident.”

Anonymous, PA (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“acceleration an handling is excellent.”

JOSEPH M., OH (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Acceleration and handling are OK, but ride is somewhat rough and road noise is excessive.”

JAMES P., VA (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The side mirrors are so large that they hinder the roadway view when turning.”

Anonymous, WA (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“I never thought a four-cylinder could make me this happy, but it had done an excellent job.”

MICHAEL B., TX (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Drives great”

FRANK B., NC (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“doesn't accelerate up hills well”

Anonymous, PA (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The acceleration of this vehicle is limited when going into 4th gear for the overall size which makes me think I should have chosen a bigger engine like V6 if it was offered. The aerodynamic look and feel of this car along with the miles per gallon is awesome so this makes up for lack of acceleration in my opinion.”

MARY M., MI (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“I love the way my malibu handles. Easy to drive, good in bad road conditions and comfortable besides being sharp looking!”

CHERYL B., KY (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Though a 4 cylinder engine, this car has better pickup than my 6 cylinder. Very maneuverable, with tight turning capacity. I will pass the speed limit very easily as it rides so very smooth.”

PAUL W., AL (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Winter snow-ice is makes handling a little difficult when manuevering on tight streets.”

Anonymous, OH (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“It takes a long time for the air conditioning to cool the car in warm weather. The car shimmies when I'm driving. There are a lot of blind spots. The front window defroster a do not work very well. Bluetooth doesn't work.”

Anonymous, PA (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Leather seat split and I had warranty problems with the dealership. They didn't seem to be interested in solving the problem nor in covering the problem under the warranty which was a bumper to bumper one.”

Anonymous, ON (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“This year Malibu is very cramped. I hit my head constantly when I get in and it feels awkward getting out. The trunk opening is too small, it barely lets you slide in a large suitcase although the trunk has plenty of room. The 2012 model improved on these issues, I wish I had waited”

SHARON S., KY (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Rear seats are uncomfortable & rear space is limited”

Anonymous, NY (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Seats are automatic Slow acceleration on hills Car is too low to the ground Not enough room inside”

Anonymous, PA (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The front seats are very comfortable. The climate control (manual system) does a very good job. The car is quiet and has an excellent ride.”

MICHAEL B., TX (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“difficult to get in and out (access not good) vibration rattle when idling that has defied detection after three dealer checks mass air sensor problem that resulted in being towed (only 50,000 miles)??”

Anonymous, PA (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Seats are very uncomfortable”

Anonymous, PA (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Though a tight fit for me (170 lb, 6' male) it is a very comfortable compartment with all controls available. However, I wish they would make the lettering on the controls more indelible as they wear off very quickly.”

PAUL W., AL (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Seats are not as comfortable as I would like; they seem too narrow”

WAYNE W., MN (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The ride is not good. Feel every bump in the rode. This even applies to when car was new.”

JUDITH M., IL (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Comfort includes height of the seating and entry to seating, able to adjust drivers seat and steering wheel for long drives.”

CHARLENE M., MI (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“2011 doesn't have telescoping steering wheel that 2008 did.”

Anonymous, WI (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Passenger seat does not have electronic controls or lumbar support as the driver's seat does. Also no climate control in this vehicle.”

REED F., UT (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“I have a hard time adjusting the seat so its comfortable for my back and neck. The head rest pushes my head forward.”

Anonymous, WA (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“seating in front seats is a little confining, i.e., squeezing the cheeks. Local mpg is disconcerting because it rarely exceeds 19-20 mpg”

JOSEPH M., OH (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Difficult to get in and out of with back and neck trouble. Once inside it is great.”

SAM L., MS (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“front passenger seat is quite uncomfortable on long trips”

Anonymous, NY (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“The 2011 Malibu has plenty of space for 5 passengers. The engine , though somewhat underpowered, is quiet and smooth. The transmission likes to stay in lower gears around town, so delivers poor gas mileage.”

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)

“It is reliable, rides well and is reasonable priced”

Anonymous, MI (2011 Chevrolet Malibu)
