What Owners Say
"Have had the entire hood and top repainted due to paint and clear coat chipping/peeling away in large chunks down to the primer. Just noticed in the last few months that the top of the doors where they curve around to meet the top, the clear coat is peeling away, although the paint is still intact. But this is how the top and hood started and then peeled away down to primer."
William G., TX (2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 4.7-L V8)"Summit white Paint started peeling and flaking after a couple of years, dealer would not address the issue, But I have a 2000 white Buick, 1997 white pontiac with no paint problems"
Nancy-Jim D., TX (2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 5.2-L V8)"I had the roof and hood repainted about 3 years ago due to the paint coming off in sheets, now the doors are starting to peel, first the clear coat and then the paint"
William G., TX (2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 4.7-L V8)"Paint was defective from the factory and problem started under the warranty and GM would not cover it."
Nancy-Jim D., TX (2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 5.2-L V8)"Clear oat started peeling off"
Anonymous, OK (2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 5.2-L V8)"The truck is solid white, roof and hood started peeling first, started peeling when the truck was still under extended warranty and paint warranty but they refused to repaint the truck, later the top of bed rails started, I had a white 1997 Pontiac, a white 2000 olds intrigue, a 2000 Buick century all set out side and none of these three white cars had a any peeling, flaking or rusting problem, I feel I got a bad paint job at the factory and GM should have warrantied it"
Nancy-Jim D., TX (2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 5.2-L V8)"Clear coat started peeling in the past 5 months"
Anonymous, NC (2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 4.7-L V8)"The truck started rusting about 2 months after the 10 year warranty expired. Truck was also "rustproof by dealer before delivery". I do live in a northern climate but was hoping that the metal coatings would protect my vehicle better. They do not. Every panel on the truck made out of metal is not just rusting they are disintegrating from the inside out. I am most worried about my frame doing the exact same thing because nowadays they use hydroformed metal to construct a frame on 1500 silverados. Hydroformed is a big word for to cheap pieces of metal pressed together to create a piece of steel said to be strong enough to replace a frame rail like they use on the 2500 and 3500 series. There was never any hope of getting to this problem early as all the panels are rusting from the inside of body out until paint bubbles up and flakes off. This system is most likely ok for southern climates but still is not much better than the metal used in 70's on forward. But now with your frame made out of this type metal its only a matter of time before the vehicle just disintegrates to the point of failure."
Anonymous, (2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.2-L V8)"It's a CHEVROLET pickup truck. The rocker panels and cab corners always rot out after about 10 years or so. CHEVROLET should either make them from a material that won't rust, or make them easier (and cheaper) to replace."
