This version of the Silverado hadn't changed much since its 1999 introduction, so it didn't compete well with its contemporaries. Highlights included a selectable four-wheel-drive system with a full-time mode and a high payload capacity. But its powertrain wasn't particularly smooth. Handling was ungainly and the ride was stiff. Interior quality was also below par.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"has plenty of power when merging on highway"

Anonymous, ME (2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Plenty of power in the 5.3, drives fine, cruise works well. Would be nice to have a cancel button for the cruise control. Have to stop the cruise control or tap the brakes to shut it off."

Charles R., MO (2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Drives great and has good power even after 152k on the engine."

Anonymous, CA (2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"It's still running and in good condition."

Anonymous, TX (2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Cushy leather"

Anonymous, AZ (2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Great ride, seats are 12 years old with 177k miles, no holes looked good. Handling in curves as good as most cars. Smooth, quiet ride, even on long trips still vehicle of choice. Spent very little on repairs. Biggest flaw is brake lines rust and can be a safety issue."

"Very rough ride"

Anonymous, NE (2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"drives good"

Cat L., MI (2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Very comfortable seats. They’re very thick cushions on those seats. Even after twelve years of service, there are virtually no noises or squeaks heard for a 4X4 pickup. The only signs of wear with the truck is a loose headliner. I might add that the handling and ride have stayed the same over the years. It’s been a good truck."

"This is an excellent vehicle for comfort and ride"

Guy P., FL (2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The most comfortable vehicle I have ever driven."
