This version of the Silverado has a fairly comfortable ride, as well as easy access and cargo loading. Compared to the previous generation, the steering has improved feel and response. The payload rating is generous. We appreciate the selectable full-time 4WD and standard stability control on all V8-equipped Silverados. A hybrid version was available too. On the other hand, IIHS side-crash test results were disappointing.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2021 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

What Owners Say

Loose exterior trim or moldings

"plastic moulding on doors to prevent dings starting falling off"

Anonymous, CT (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 4.8-L V8)

"Door mounding is wrapped around aluminum, the aluminum flexes and peels the mounding and double sided tape off the door"

Tony C., NH (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"My Chevrolet Silverado has 290,000 miles on it, so I don't expect it to look perfect although the paint looks very nice yet when I wash it and the truck is clean but the exterior door trim has been curling and coming off for the past 3 or so years so I have finally just tore the ones off the back doors. In my opinion if they need to try and dress up the door they should just do it with paint"

James W., IA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"The trim on the doors seems to be coming off. When it came loose it folded back a little and now even though I stuck it back on it has a bend in it"

Anonymous, IA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3-L V8)

"TRIM COMES OFF AFTER MANY WASHES AT CAR WASH"

Anonymous, AB (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3-L V8)

Anonymous, AZ (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT)

"The bottom paint is rotting and peeling. It is likely due to the de-Icing solutions used by local and State department of transportation ice treatment systems. But despite frequent washing of undercarriage, this peeling, rotting, and rusting persists"

K P., PA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)
Rust

"Rust in the arches over the rear wheels, first noticed about 2 years ago. To correct it I had patch panels installed by a local body shop at a cost of 5,000. It's very frustrating that this truck rusted so badly since it never sits outdoors at night and has always been kept very clean. "The airbags have been under recall since July 2016 as part of the Takata world wide recall. So that's almost 2 years. Every time I check with dealer or online at NHTSA, They say remedy not available. This year my air bag warning light came on , (Saying service needed). Called dealer but said they would not replace it under recall. If I wanted to pay to have it serviced or looked at I could. I guess GM is playing the risk management game with the chance that you won't have an accident that causes the air bag to deploy, with the possible deadly consequence. This reminds me to contact them again and create a paper trail so that if anything does happen, there will be info for a multi million dollar lawsuit. Of course that does help a person that would rather be alive from the benefit of the safety device that is required in all vehicles now."

Anonymous, VA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"Airbag warning light is on and message states it needs to be serviced. Also, I received mail from GM that the airbag is subject to a recall but that GM is appealing that ruling so will not cover the repair at this time."

"The fuel system continually throws off a generic mass gas leak (CODE 405) and every component has been changed at least once. When it is throwing off the code and you open the gas cap with the engine running you can actually hear air coming out of the tank and the gas station nozzle will not pump fuel into the tank until the engine is shut off. VERY annoying and as yet unresolved."
