The Silverado is an easy truck to live with, thanks to its comfortable ride and reasonable floor height. Access is fairly easy, as is cargo loading. The truck also offers generous towing and payload capacity. A six-speed automatic transmission aids acceleration and fuel economy, while selectable full-time four-wheel drive adds safety in slippery conditions.

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Paint started peeling on roof 2 yrs ago. The last 6 months it started peeling on hood and fender. The peeling paint exposes bare metal. It's obviously a manufacturer defect and when I contacted the dealership 2 yrs ago. They said Chevrolet wouldn't fix it. Of course the extended warranty I purchased doesn't cover paint."

Anonymous, OK (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3-L V8)

"Paint started peeling on hood and cab above windowshield. Had detail shop repair places. Put a clear protector on hood. Seems fine now."

Anonymous, (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Unsure 5.3-L V8)

"rear fender panels have blistering, peeling paint and rust. Was told this was rust occurring from under body panel. Proper treatment is to open vent plugs and spray in rust treatment or oil product. Then repair paint damage."

Anonymous, MI (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"Both rear-wheel wells have rust that showed up only 4 years after it was made. Now at year 6 the rust is all over, paint is bubbling, looks bad. Shouldn't happen to a newer year truck"

Anonymous, MN (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"It is my understanding that body fender panels front and rear are not properly treated for rust resistance so rust from inside out causing exterior rust, paint blister and peeling. Rear panels have interior plastic panel which can trap moisture."

"The tailgate and sides are all rust. I see several other CHEVROLET trucks with the problem"

Anonymous, NY (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"I traded a 2005 Silverado that had rust issues but ran great to upgrade to a better body and a year 2013 that CR said was CHEVROLET's better year. This year, the paint on the 2013 started peeling inside the wheel well. The body shop said it is common in this truck because of the material between the metal holds moisture. I am basically now in the same boat as the 2005. Very disappointed with this."

David L., PA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 5.3-L V8)

"THE COATING ON THE FRAME IS PEELING OFF CAUSING RUST TO FORM ON THE FRAME. CHEVROLET HAS A TCB ON THIS PROBLEM AND IS WILLING TO ONLY PAY HALF FOR THE REPAIR. WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT? TOYOTA IS CHANGING WHOLE FRAMES FOR THEIR TRUCKS UP TO 15 YRS. OLD, SO GUESS WHAT MY NEXT TRUCK WILL BE NOT ANY CHROLET PRODUCT AT ALL. THIS SHOWS THAT THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT PURCHASE THEIR VEHICLES. THEY SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN BAILED OUT AT ALL."

Chris G., OH (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3-L V8)

Bob G., LA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 5.3-L V8)

"Covered in previous comment."

Eugene P., IL (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 6.0-L V8)
Pulsation or vibration

"When I test drove this vehicle in early April 2019, there was a bad vibration when braking. Otherwise this truck was terrific. The dealer agreed to fix it, or my purchase deal was off. They found the trouble to be the rear brake drums, which were replaced. I have only driven this vehicle about 600km since buying it."

Robert S., BC (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3-L V8)

"The truck had 4 doors, but you couldn't open the back one without opening the front one first."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)
Locks and latches

"Driver side door handle fell apart twice in the last two years, once covered by warranty second time-warranty had expired. Cost: $220 dollars for repair by Chevrolet dealer. Took less than 1/2 hr to replace. Part is a NORMAL shelf item-stocked by dealer. Assume that Chevrolet is aware that this is a COMMON fault i.e. Cheap plastic parts that requires replacement of the whole door opener assembly"

Frank T., FL (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 6.0-L V8)

"Exterior rear passenger door handle broke off, plastic, dealer repair under warrenty."

Dan K., CA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"I have had the truck for four years and I am the sole driver and occupant of it. It has 34000 miles on it total. The doors and door locks get very limited use. I have had three of the four door handles/locks come off in my hand, they just simply fell off. I have never ever had this happen on any vehicle I have ever owned and I've own and driven about 30 in the past 57 years over a total of a million million and this has never happened. I have contacted the dealer and general motors and although the dealer attest to the substandard quality of the door handles and that it is a recurring problem upon my contact with General Motors they refused to do anything, have even stopped communication with me without explanation. And I am a long term customer of 57 years and have purchased over 20 GM vehicles over that span of time. Wonder is, how do they treat their other customers?"

Douglas G., LA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"both of my door handles had to be replaced because of yhe cheap plastic parts gm used.the doors are very heavy, and the plastic inside parts of the doors were not stong enough to hold up."

Anonymous, NC (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

Anonymous, MN (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"The driver control for the power window on the passenger side will not allow the window to go down. I have to reach over and put the window down on the other side, but can put the window up on the driver side. The entire module needs replaced to fix this problem, which is expensive."

Anonymous, MS (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3-L V8)

"The sensor malfunction light for this sensor intermittently will illuminate when outside air temperature is cool. Was going to have repaired but sensor is frozen/galled to threads and would require replacement of section of exhaust piping. Since I see no obvious performance or engine runnability issues I have not replaced due to cost of exhaust piping replacement. Sensor typically resets immediately and no more problems until days or weeks later. Probably intermittently has been occuring for last 4 - 5 years although each sensor warning lasts only a few seconds per event."

Anonymous, (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3-L V8)

"One of the cylinders doesn't fire; probably a problem with a wire or electronic. Can be an expensive repair but mechanic said doesn't hurt engine if I don't fix. So I've been driving over 100,000 miles with this problem."

Michael R., NM (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 6.0-L V8 hybrid)

"This shows up as a code P0130 which is a cylinder issue. It is a known problem with these trucks and engine. If you are lucky the repair is the wiring and spark plug in the cylinder - mine was in #1. The car repair people knew just what it was because they have a memo from CHEVROLET re: a known issue and what the repair service should try to fix it. My mechanic was able to fix for a cost of $115.00 but no guarantee that it won't happen again or be worse. I'm disgusted with car manufacturers. There are so many issues on cars it's ridiculous."
