"The vehicle started making a bad "knock" in the driveline while driving. While maintaining steady speed and pressure on the gas pedal, the RPMs would vary by 200-400 for no apparent reason. The torque converter had failed, sending parts into the transmission that required the transmission to be rebuilt. It was a very expensive repair on a vehicle that was out of warranty due to mileage, but not years. The vehicle had never towed anything, had been meticulously maintained and there was no external reason for this part to fail. There is no question that the part was defective."

"GM issued a recall to update/reprogram brake boost assist. Problem is regular loss of power assist at low speed. I experienced total loss of power brake boost assist. The brakes would only work if the pedal was pressed with enormous force. I experienced this brake boost failure in heavy bumper to bumper traffic. It was totally unexpected. The brake pedal felt like a brick and had to be pushed very hard to slow or stop the car. I was extremely concerned for my personal and family's safety. The dealership dismissed it as no big deal because I still had braking action, but without power assist. The dealership felt the unassisted braking was sufficient. They eventually replaced the engine vacuum pump to improve vacuum boost to the master cylinder. They had difficulty getting the new vacuum pump part because of a nationwide shortage (imagine that!). In summary, I feel the initial software update made the braking performance worse to the point of vacuum pump failure. The pump failure and unexpected loss of power assist brake performance jeopardized my family's safety. Braking performance has been restored after the vacuum pump was replaced. I will never buy another new or used GM product with this vacuum pump assist feature. It just isn't dependable."
