The Tahoe's highlights are its responsive powertrain, quiet cabin, and good low-speed ride. But fit and finish are unimpressive, the third-row seat is very tight and handling is cumbersome.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"very good handling, excellent turning radius, sure footed and a dependable performing vehicle."

Michael R., CA (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"Outstanding for a vehicle this large and heavy. Plenty of power for towing 5000-lb Travel trailer, including hills."

Anonymous, CO (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"The Tahoe is a utility vehicle. We use it to haul dual axle cargo and utility trailers. We have towed the cargo trailer fully loaded at 7000 lbs from Washington down the Baja Peninsula five times roundtrip. The Tahoe is rated to haul 8,900 lbs and has the power to pull up steep grades over mountain passes. Without the trailer the Tahoe is great on off road drives in the desert brush and up arroyos."

John W., WA (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"With a mid-sized V-8 engine, purchased for trailer towing, the solo acceleration is outstanding. This engine also is great when towing on the highway and needing to pass, etc."

Anonymous, CO (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"The Tahoe still has strong acceleration. Although there is some slight play in the steering, it is still responsive and has a tight turning radius. The road noise is moderate, considering it is the base model."

Alan H., TX (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The leather seats are quite comfortable on short or long rides. Road noise is discernible but we are able to talk in quiet tones and still enjoy the communication. The ride is totally acceptable, easy to control, very sure footed, a pleasure to drive."

Michael R., CA (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"In spite of using 10-ply rated truck tires, rides beautifully."

Anonymous, CO (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"very smooth ride for a 4-wheel drive"

Anonymous, OR (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"great ride, especially on the highway, and cabin is quiet"

Anonymous, OR (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"Had most of the front end suspension replaced and still makes embarrassing sounds when driving."

David B., OH (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"Excellent ride on the highway. For better rocky conditions, I use Load Range F tires, but inflated to only about 46 psi. What a highway ride!"

Anonymous, CO (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"My Tahoe is like a lazy boy recliner with wheels. It is the most comfortable car I have ever owned."

Anonymous, GA (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

What Owners Say

"We are original owners and have nearly 370000 miles with only normal wear and tear items replaced."

Barry H., AZ (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"this vehicle has served our family very well over theyears we have owned it. It has doubled as a good vehicle for vacations for our family of five as well as being used as a truck to tow a trailer and haul many different heavy loads used in landscaping."

Jack H., NE (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"185000 mile with no major problems other catalytic convert replacement. need I say more"

Donald A., CA (2002 Chevrolet Tahoe)

"The Tahoe has served me well, but the transmission broke shortly after the warranty was expired. It was an expensive repair and Chevy refused to acknowledge that it shouldn't have gone bad after only two years. I was very disappointed and may not but another Chevy again."
